Synopsis:
The Eagle Shooting Heroes (1993) is an action comedy directed by Jeffrey Lau, parodying the 'wuxia' genre of kung-fu films with a sprawling plot replete with big fight scenes, ultra-complex love stories and goofy musical numbers.

First Love - Litter On the Breeze (1997) is a postmodern romance directed by Eric Kot, which tells two interwining stories on the subject of first love, interspersed with commentary by the director about how and why the film was made.

Away With Words (1999), a drama about Asano (Tadanobu Asano), a man with mnemonic memory; for him, words have tangible shapes, tastes, smells and colours, and can never be forgotten once he has heard them.

The Eagle Shooting Heroes (1993)
In Wong Kar-Wai's film, Ouyang Feng was played by Leslie Cheung. In this film it's Tony Leung Chiu-Wai who plays Feng, and his performance is like that of a bad guy from a 30's silent film. Huang Yaoshi is played by Leslie Cheung instead of Tony Leung Ka-Fai, who took the role in Ashes of Time. Jacky Cheung plays Hong Qi, the Beggar Prince, in both movies. Everyone else plays other people and to get into the names and stories would only take up pages.

First Love: Litter on the Breeze (1998)
The debut feature from annoying comic Eric Kot is both trying and tender. Using a bizarre narrative format, he tells two stories that ruminate on first love. Actually appearing onscreen as Eric Kot, he discusses the genesis of the project and illustrates his initial, ultimately rejected storylines. He eventually settles on the story of a mentally-damaged garbage man (Takeshi Kaneshiro) who befriends and falls for a sleepwalker (lovely newcomer Lee Wai-Wai). Every night he guides her in her evening travels, and the strange twosome's burgeoning affection is shown in a decidedly quirky, yet still affecting manner.

Away with Words (1999)
Since his childhood in Okinawa, Asano has had a mnemonic memory. For him, words have tactile forms and tastes that make them constantly present in his mind; as a result, he can't forget a word once he's heard it. Now he is in 'gridlock,' his memories blocking the flow of life. Asano finds himself in Hong Kong's Dive Bar, drawn by the colour of the gay club's couches, a shade of blue which reminds him of the sea. Kevin, the bar's flamboyant owner, is a lush, unable to recall most of his booze-soaked, wild life. He is arrested every night because he cannot remember how to pronounce the name of his street in Cantonese. Asking instead to be taken to the police station, he is promptly arrested for public mischief. The film chronicles Kevin and Asano's meeting, in which words are a burden.

Triple bill of films produced by Hong Kong filmmaker Wong Kar-Wai. 'The Eagle Shooting Heroes' (1993) is an action comedy directed by Jeffrey Lau, parodying the 'wuxia' genre of kung-fu films with a sprawling plot replete with big fight scenes, ultra-complex love stories and goofy musical numbers. Major Hong Kong stars including Tony Leung, Maggie Cheung, Brigitte Lin, Leslie Cheung and Jacky Cheung step up to the plate of self-parody with gusto in this crazy tale of treason, treachery, magic and martial arts. 'First Love - Litter On the Breeze' (1997) is a postmodern romance directed by Eric Kot, which tells two interwining stories on the subject of first love, interspersed with commentary by the director about how and why the film was made. In the first narrative strand, Takeshi Kaneshiro stars as an emotionally damaged rubbish collector who befriends and falls in love with a teenage sleepwalker (Lee Wai-Wai). In the second, a married grocer (Eric Kot) bumps into his first love (Karen Mok) a decade after jilting her at the altar, an encounter that wreaks havoc on his domestic life. Christopher Doyle directs 'Away With Words' (1999), a drama about Asano (Tadanobu Asano), a man with mnemonic memory; for him, words have tangible shapes, tastes, smells and colours, and can never be forgotten once he has heard them. Travelling to Hong Kong, he meets flamboyant bar owner Kevin (Kevin Sherlock), a man whose colourful past has been lost in a drink-fuddled haze, and who cannot even remember the Cantonese name of the street where he lives. As the relationship between these two very different men unfolds, it becomes clear that words only seem to stand in the way of their future together.
