Synopsis:

This spectacular, award-winning drama, Before The Fall, is a breathtaking portrait of the courageous young men who were ripped from their innocence and thrown into the explosive chaos of World War Two. In the summer of 1942, as the brutal Nazi regime extended its reach throughout Europe, an idealistic sixteen-year-old defies his father and leaves home to join the fight for his country. There, in a disconcerting world dominated by intense combat and harsh discipline, he experiences unexpected camaraderie. However, a barbarous raid against escaped prisoners of war forces him to make an important decision that will mark the end of his youth and open his eyes to the harsh reality of war that sacrificed a generation.

In 1942, Friedrich Weimer's boxing skills get him an appointment to a National Political Academy (NaPolA) - high schools that produce Nazi elite. Over his father's objections, Friedrich enrolls, seeing this as his ticket out of factory life to university and a good salary. During his year in seventh column (fifth form), this innocence is altered as Friedrich encounters hazing, cruelty, death, and the Nazi code. His friendship with Albrecht, the ascetic son of the area's governor, is central to this education; a night in the forest hunting for escaped Russian POWs brings things to a head.
