Synopsis:

Baywatch premiered in April 1989 and enjoyed a successful run throughout the 90s before coming to an end in 2001. The show took the role of the lifeguard and completely transformed it, adding adventure, excitement and sex appeal to an occupation that seemed an unlikely basis for a TV show. David Hasselhoff filled the lead role of Lt. Mitch Bucannon and while a bevy of curvaceous beauties stood by his side, including Pamela Anderson, who played CJ Parker for five seasons (debuting in Season Three), other notable names such as Erika Eleniak, Billy Warlock, John Allen Nelson and Australia's own Peter Phelps donned the infamous red swimsuit.

Season 1, Episode 0: Panic at Malibu Pier

Pilot of the popular syndicated series introduces a close-knit group of lifeguards at Baywatch, a Los Angeles beach, who protect the lives of people that come to the beach everyday. They include the team leader, the recently promoted Lieutenant Mitch Buchannon, whose devotion to his job has recently cost him his marriage. His lawyer ex-wife, Gayle, wants him to limit visits with their 10-year-old son Hobie. Craig Pomeroy is a part-time lawyer, who rescues an emotionally disturbed teenage girl, named Laurie, after falling off a pier in which she gets obsessed with him and when he rejects her advances, Laurie begins to go 'Fatal Attraction' by targeting Craig's wife Gina. Jill Riley is a veteran lifeguard who takes the eager rookie, Shauni McLain, under her wing to show her the ropes of rescue, while Shauni develops a crush on the rookie Eddie Kramer, a brooding loner with a mysterious past. Also, Trevor Cole is an arrogant, but incompetent, Australian lifeguard from a private beach club down the coast who could spell trouble for everyone. Captain Don Thorpe is Mitch's officious boss who wants things done right, while Hobie is taken out on a fishing boat by Mitch's friend, the grizzled veteran lifeguard Al Gibson, it leads to danger when their fishing boat sinks, and Al risks his life to try to save Hobie.
Season 1, Episode 1: In Deep

Two reckless teenage friends of Hobie are involved in power-ski hit and run accident that leaves a windjammer rider dead. When Hobie discovers that they are responsible, he is torn between protecting his friends identity and leaving the case unsolved to the local beach patrol officer, Sgt. Garner Ellerbee, or telling Mitch and risk facing his anger since he has repeatedly warned Hobie over the dangers of water skiing. Meanwhile, Craig discovers that Eddie is in fact homeless after catching him sleeping in his lifeguard tower in which he and Gina offer their storage closet for him to crash until he finds a place of his own. Also, Trevor continues to stir up more trouble for the Baywatch lifeguards in which Jill is both drawn to and repulsed by his arrogance and disregard for the local county regulations.
Season 1, Episode 2: Heat Wave

During the hottest day of the summer, Mitch's old friend, Steve, and his young son, Mike, show up for a surprise visit. But when Mike is trapped with a wild local boy in a storm drain and is in danger of drowning, Steve is forced to admit to Mitch that the reason he's in Los Angeles: Mike kidnapped his son over losing a custody battle with his ex-wife, while a private investigator is on his trail. Meanwhile, Craig is forced to decide by his demanding law firm boss between being a lifeguard, or staying at the law firm. But Craig's artist wife, Gina, offers him a third option: open up his own law firm. Also, Eddie begins flirting with an attractive blond at his lifeguard tower, not realizing that she happens to be Trevor's girlfriend who is visiting from Australia. Also, Jill deals with a swarm of disruptive lost children at headquarters while radio operator Sid Wilson is overwhelmed with the volume of emergency calls.
Season 1, Episode 3: Second Wave

Eddie is haunted by his bitter past when a former friend of his, named Jimmy, arrives from his home in Philadelphia and immediately causes friction over personal issues they had while they were in a street gang. Then, Eddie gets suspended for getting into a fight with Jimmy at the beach, and Craig has to bail him out of jail for fighting on the streets with Jimmy and his gang. When Eddie comes clean and decide to turn Jimmy in, the thug slips away and decides to get even with Eddie once and for all by setting his lifeguard tower afire, with Eddie and Shauni still inside. Meanwhile, Mitch stresses over his upcoming lifeguard re-check with Captain Thorpe, which turns out to be quite different than he expected. Also, Trevor begins to re-think his lifeguard career at the beach club after he rescues his current girlfriend, Lisa Peters, and she later nearly dies from secondary drowning.
Season 1, Episode 4: Message in a Bottle

Hobie is once again caught in the middle of Mitch and Gayle's custody battle when Gayle gets a new job at a law firm in Ohio, and Mitch tells her that he will not give up Hobie without a fight. However, both Mitch and Gayle must put aside their personal differences to help the rest of the Baywatch squad find Hobie and two of his friends when they get stranded on a channel island that is the hideout of a pair of modern day pirates. Meanwhile, Eddie and Shauni squabble with each other again after they're reluctantly paired for a 24-hour shift, where they encounter an naive and obnoxious tourist couple stranded on the beach and are forced to take them along with them on their beach patrol
Season 1, Episode 5: The Sky Is Falling

When Gayle's job transfers her to Ohio sooner than expected, she makes plans to take Hobie with her. But Mitch is determined not to let go of Hobie and the two of them fight it out in the courtroom. Meanwhile, two robbers attempt to retrieve a suitcase full of cash left floating in the ocean after their plane crashes. Also, Captain Thorpe assigns himself to Eddie and Shauni's tower to help watch the beach.
Season 1, Episode 6: The Drowning Pool

When a middle-aged man drowns in front of Jill's tower, the incident report lists the cause of death as a heart attack. But when certain things don't add up, Jill investigates herself and soon becomes involved with the man's son, whom she begins to suspect that he murdered his father to inherit the family business. But all of the evidence against the son is circumstantial at best.

Eddie gets mixed up with an attractive girl who is on the run from her abusive and murderous ex-boyfriend. Also, Trevor Cole enters rookie school to become a county certified lifeguard after quitting his job at the private beach club. Meanwhile, Craig and Gina go away for a weekend camping trip in wanting to spend a romantic time alone to make a baby.

Eddie becomes suspicious of Andrew, Shauni's new boyfriend, over his sudden change in attitudes. But Shauni ignores Eddie's suspicious thinking he's just jealous, until Andrews shows his true colors when he gets increasingly demanding and physically violent with her. Meanwhile, a charted boat catering to drunken revels looks like trouble to Craig, who proves correct when he and Mitch must make a daring rescue after the boat heads out of control and straight for the crowded Santa Monica pier.

A rash of murders committed by a fiendish looking man coincides with the opening of a new beach front hotel. Craig does some investigating and discovers that a local senator who will speak at the opening ceremony, knew all of the murder victims. Meanwhile, Gina plays mother to Eddie after he gets his wisdom teeth pulled leading to him having romance-minded fantasies about her.

As the Baywatch team prepares themselves for the arrival of a violent tropical storm, a pair of escaped convicts shoot Garner, leaving him under the Malibu pier while they take shelter at the Baywatch headquarters. Meanwhile, Eddie and Shauni become more close as the tropical storm draws near, and Captain Thorp additions for a job as a radio surf reporter.

Mitch rekindles a romance with a former girlfriend of his, which sparks hostility with Craig whom she used to date a few years ago. Meanwhile, after much frustration, Eddie manages to purchase his new car for a few thousand dollars, a bargain for he soon finds himself arrested after learning that it has been stolen.

When Jill's former boyfriend shows up as her new volleyball partner to compete in a Seal Beach Pro-Volleyball tournament, Jill secretly plans to get back at him for dumping her by teaming with Trevor and facing him in a doubles competition. Meanwhile, Eddie plans to spend a romantic day with Shauni. But after they make a rescue from an armored truck that has crashed in the railing of a pier, they end up inside the truck after it falls into the water.

John D. Cort, a charming rogue and old friend of Mitch's, returns to Baywatch and recruits a friend of theirs during their days as Navy SEALS to help carry out a shady deal. Meanwhile, Shauni and Jill decide to go into business together by selling sandwiches on the beach. But the competition between them turns out to be much serious than they thought.

Craig, Cort and Eddie take a road trip to Mexico, but their vacation south of the border turns ugly when they tangle with an angry American tourist who won't leave them alone. At Baywatch, Mitch gets an uninvited house guest: Captain Thorp when his wife leaves him, and Hobie develops a crush on Shauni.

Cort and Eddie train junior lifeguards at a water slide park. But someone is vandalizing the slide's pumps. Meanwhile, Captain Thorpe wants Shauni fired for posing in a nude pinup calendar, but she claims she was duped into posing. Hobie gets into a fight at school which disqualifies him from a field trip to Baywatch, which requests a parent-teacher meeting between Mitch and Hobie's attractive teacher, Amanda Keller.

Eddie is drawn into gambling after Cort takes him to an illegal offshore casino and after a few nights of bad luck, Eddie finds himself $3,000 in debt. But when Cort discovers the place to be rigged with loaded dice and marked cards, he, Craig and Eddie conspire to beat the gamblers at their own game. Meanwhile, Hobie thinks he can slack off after his English teacher, Amanda Keller, and Mitch begin dating, but he finds out otherwise.

When a rookie lifeguard claims he saw an apparition of a young girl running through the surf in a white nightgown, everyone thinks he's crazy. But when the lifeguard turns up dead after being drowned, Eddie is haunted by the same apparition and it revives a painful memory of the drowning of his sister. Meanwhile, Hobie attempts to babysit for a friend's dog in his house without Mitch noticing.
Season 1, Episode 18: Shark Derby

Schools of sharks in the area create a frenzy on the beach and a greedy restaurateur profits from the events by giving out a sleazy promotion called 'Shark Derby' with a $25,000 prize to the one who kills the biggest shark. All the activity in the bay makes the shark activity even more dangerous which angers Mitch and Captain Thorpe. As a result, when Jill attempts to rescue two drowning children, she is attacked and gets eaten alive by a large great white shark, and her death sends shock waves through Baywatch headquarters.
Season 1, Episode 19: The Big Race

Cort promises to come up with a load of cash for a nursing home, but he needs Mitch and Craig's help to compete with each other in a water skiing race with a big cash prize. Meanwhile, Shauni is still grief-stricken and afraid to go back in the water in the wake of Jill's death.
Season 1, Episode 20: Old Friends

Craig, Mitch and Garner go for a weekend hang-gliding trip, but Mitch has an accident when he gets stuck in a tree and eventually falls. With Mitch unconscious, Craig and Garner have to wait for a rescue helicopter to come, which is delayed. Meanwhile, Cort reacquaints himself with a woman whose husband had drowned a year ago, but learns that the husband actually faked his death to collect an insurance. Now, Cort must decide whether or not to turn them both in.
Season 1, Episode 21: The End?
Original Air Date-6 April 1990
A massive earthquake strikes Southern California and leaves Gina's life hanging in the balance when her house collapses on her, while Cort and Craig are trapped out in the ocean. Meanwhile, Eddie nearly goes crazy when he realizes that he is the only one who can help a pregnant woman going into labor who is trapped with him at the headquarters. Garner, who hates the sand and surf to begin with, is forced to play lifeguard to fill in for several of the Baywatch team who are needed elsewhere for rescue attempts.
