Synopsis:

Chris, Dean, Gilbert, Charles, Steven, Bo and Mike are young inmates in the final stages of their long and often repeated prison sentences. Before they are released back into society, they take part in this unconventional project where they help to capture, break and train wild horses. Film maker Marjoleine Boonstra followed the inmates during the course of the three-month training programme. This intensive contact with the horses forces the men to think about their own behaviour. Chris: "I believe horses teach you a lot about yourself, your character flaws, your weaknesses and even your strengths."

The contact with the horses creates a bridge for the men: between the discipline inside and the temptations outside; between the relative safety inside and not falling into old patterns outside; between inside, where they have to earn the trust of animals as well as their fellow inmates, and outside, where they have learnt to hide behind a mask and where they will have to find themselves again. Horses are exceptionally sensitive. And horses do not judge.

In this project, the wild, unrefined worlds of wild horses and wild men meet in the desert landscape of Nevada. The vast Nevada desert is still home to large herds of wild horses. Some of these horses are captured by local ranchers, broken, trained and sold. One of these ranches is part of a state prison: The Northern Nevada Correctional Centre.
