Synopsis:
Sports documentaries are a dime a dozen these days, but rare is a film like NO ASHES NO PHOENIX that offers such an intimate portrait of what it means to truly be a team. Jens Pfeifer's well structured story tracks a season of the Phoenix Hagen basketball team, which has finally earned promotion to Germany's top division. Hagen is town that truly loves the game of basketball and the townspeople are thrilled that their professional team has finally made the ""big leagues."" However, to stay in the first league, the Phoenix has to win a certain number of games, but the team just keeps losing. Their young coach gets desperate and brings on a star of the German basketball league, Michael Jordan (no, not that Michael Jordan). While Jordan helps deliver wins, he also brings along his ego and baggage, shaking up the team for the worse. Pfeifer, a former pro-player himself, portrays his subjects honestly in NO ASHES NO PHOENIX and ultimately creates a story that's relatable for sports fans and non-sports fans alike.

A locker room expose about young basketball players in Hagen, Germany who face their fears of losing and challenge enormous odds to succeed.
