Synopsis:
***ATTENTION***Blood of My Blood - 2 Versions***The Actor's Work - 4/3 Aspect Ratio***
Blood of My Blood (2011)
In the suburbs of Lisbon, Márcia, a single mother of two in her forties, works as a cook in a neighbourhood restaurant and shares her house with her sister Ivete, a hairdresser on a shopping centre. Andreia, the daughter, works as a cashier on a supermarket, studies nursing and dates César, a security guard. Joca, the son, is unemployed and a small-time delinquent.
One day Andreia confesses to her mother that she is in love with one of her professors, Vieira, an older and married man. Unexpectedly, Márcia follows her when they part, soon to discover the lovers and, in shock, realize that an unnamed tragedy is pending over them.

The Actor's Work (2011)
A film director and a group of actors gather to create the characters, story and script of what one day will become a new film. Long discussions and rehearsals, dialogues invented and put into paper, written and re-written, and later developed and shown through the three most significant scenes until they turn into their final form, into what the film to be will take from this process of work.

Blood of My Blood (2011)
The realities of life are harsh in Padre Cruz, a slum on the edge of Lisbon, and its inhabitants struggle with violence and poverty. João Canijo's latest feature portrays life in this decrepit Portuguese suburb through the story of a family attempting to transcend its hardships. Márcia (Rita Blanco) shares cramped quarters with her two young-adult children and her sister Ivete. Her daughter Cláudia shows promise in her nursing studies, but her son Joca (Rafael Morais) is a delinquent with a suspicious supply of cash. Márcia's hopes for her daughter's future are thrown into turmoil, however, when Cláudia announces she's having a relationship with a married professor, an admission that brings out the specter of Márcia's own past. Márcia is determined to bring the affair to an end, even if it means compromising her cherished relationship with Cláudia. In her late thirties and yearning for companionship, Ivete loves her family and has a soft spot for her nephew Joca, despite his frequent brushes with the law. When a notorious drug dealer discovers Joca has tried to cheat him, the latter turns to Ivete, the only person who will bail him out. The fallout from the incident has perilous consequences for them both. Canijo spent over two years rehearsing with the actors, and the result is a masterful piece that speaks deeply about unconditional love. Despite the difficulties against which the characters struggle for the benefit of their loved ones, Canijo's skillful cinematic treatment brings a message of hope and renewal as well as sacrifice.

The Actor's Work (2011)
Throughout a year's work, a group of ten actors and a film director will work together on the creation of the characters and on the structure of the plot of a new film to come. Long sessions of discussion, rehearsals and endless repetitions serve to develop the most important scenes of that plot until it takes its ultimate form, in the film which results from this work.
