Synopsis:
This 1980 BBC version of Robert Louis Stevenson's classic tale expands the short story, adding a lot of Victorian colour. It suffers from some ropey special effects, and Dave Greenslade's synthesized score doesn't pay off, but it's the power of the performances that captivates throughout the two-hour running time. David Hemmings plays Hyde as the utterly charming, amoral, younger brother of the more uptight and respectable Jekyll - though the latter already has a darker side, evident before he starts to experiment with his potions. This isn't the vile creature of the 1930s film or the more recent League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. Until the closing act, Hyde is far more handsome than Jekyll, suave and sophisticated where his counterpart is gauche and ill at ease.

1980s Adaptation of the classic Robert Louis Stevenson's exploration into the good versus evil side of human nature. David Hemmings takes the lead as the virtuous Dr Jekyll who discovers a formula to unleash the dark side of man. The result is Mr Edward Hyde, his depraved inner demon who is let loose to enjoy the more decadent side of Victorian society. As his experiments continue Mr Hyde grows stronger as his creator struggles to control him.

1980 British television version of the famous story, this time with David Hemmings as the doctor and his alter ego.
