Synopsis:
Washed-up pop star (PAUL HILTON) arrives at the Cliff Edge Hotel looking for inspiration and meets a guilt-ridden woman (MAXINE PEAKE), who is desperate to recover her past. An older woman (MARJORIE YATES) checks into a room to kill herself, but encounters a chambermaid (ANIA WENDZIKOWSKA) who just won't let her die. A blind date set up on the Internet between two teenagers (JOE DEMPSIE, NICHOLA BURLEY) fails to turn out like either of them expected. Over the course of two days and one night the hotel guests, frozen into the snowy landscape, begin to thaw- and to find a purpose that connects them all.

Carol Morley's Dreams of a Life, a quasi-documentary exploring the circumstances by which the 38-year-old Joyce Vincent's corpse rotted in a north London flat for three years before anyone discovered it, was one of the most memorable British films of last year. Her feature film, Edge, is also about lonely, marginal people, in this case three women and two men drawn to a shabby hotel at Beachy Head one winter. In tone it resembles JB Priestley's time plays and those films where people find themselves in a halfway house on the way to the hereafter. It was presumably made earlier than Dreams of a Life and is less interesting, but worth a look.

A hotel. A cliff. Six lost people, looking for something, or looking to lose themselves.
