Synopsis:

What space does the urban environment around us leave for imagination, feelings, for our humanity ? This question is at the heart of Georges Descombes' approach to landscape architecture. From the Swiss Way forest path, to the redevelopment of an area near Amsterdam that was destroyed following a plane crash, Descombe's creations raise the issue of the appropriateness of intervention. Georges Descombes along with some of his fellow travelers such as Dutch Architect Herman Hertzberger and French landscape designer Michel Corajoud, talk about their work and cast a scathing eye over a contemporary architecture that has alienated itself from everyday life. A poetic and philosophical journey, this is a film for a general audience.

The work of Genevese architect Georges Descombes, somewhere between landscape and contemporary art, has something enigmatic about it. Although his landscape architecture is highly esteemed, especially in the USA and in the Netherlands, he still stands apart from today's architectural scene. The film shows Georges Descombes' finished projects in Switzerland and Europe. The architect accompanies this cinematic journey of discovery, where we also encounter some of his contemporaries.

Between landscaping and contemporary art, the work of Swiss architect Georges Descombes remains quite confidential. Very renowned in the landscaping world, especially in the USA and the Netherlands, he however stands apart from the current architecture scene.
