Synopsis:

Iris is 16 and finishing up her teenage years a small provincial town when she meets Jean, a 40 year old photographer from Paris. Over the course of their meetings, their relationship evolves to an amorous friendship that will turn their lives upside down.

Iris in Bloom, which debuted at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival, follows sixteen-year-old Iris during the last years of her adolescence when she meets a forty-year-old photographer. Over time, their relationship evolves into a love friendship that profoundly transforms their lives.

Co-helmed by shorts director Valerie Mrejen and novelist/film executive Bertrand Schefer "Iris in Bloom" is one of those films the French seem to grow hydroponically in industrial quantities. Concerning a brief encounter between a beautiful teenage femme from the sticks and a ruggedly handsome older man, with life-changing results for both, pic reps a catalogue raisonne of upmarket, Gallic cinematic cliches, from the arch literary dialogue and hazy approach to explication to the studied air of ennui throughout.
