Synopsis:
Secret Army (1977)
Secret Army is a television drama series made by the BBC. The series tells the story of a fictional Belgian resistance movement during the Second World War dedicated to returning Allied airmen, usually having been shot down by the Luftwaffe, to the United Kingdom.
Kessler (1981)
The six-part serial is a sequel to the Second World War drama series Secret Army, set in the 1970s and following the progress of former SS Sturmbannführer Ludwig Kessler, now living under the alias of industrialist Manfred Dorf, and trying to avoid being discovered as a war criminal. Ranged against him are West German intelligence operative Richard Bauer (Alan Dobie) and young Israeli vigilante Mical Rak (Nitza Saul). Bauer and Rak's quest for justice moves from Europe to Paraguay, where other notorious real-life war criminals, Martin Bormann and Josef Mengele are featured.

Secret Army (1977)
In this series, inspired by real events during World War II, the kind, intelligent and worrisome Albert Foiret runs both a café, which is the only notable public house in a small Belgian town, where locals therefore naturally mix with the Nazi occupation forces, and a just as publicity-shy (even his bed-ridden wife knows nothing) network of the Belgian resistance, devoted to the evacuation of shot-down Allied pilots to Britain. He and his secret 'army' (including some of his staff and the Brussels Dr. Pascal Keldermans), taking orders by illegal radio from London, constantly risk their lives -and if caught by the professionally torturing Gestapo, possibly everyone else's- to find the pilots, hide, nurse and prepare them for the long, dangerous journey out of the Reich under the Nazis' noses, a never ending cat-and-mouse game against specialized German hunters, run by the gentleman Luftwaffe (Air Force)- Major Erwin Brandt and the ruthless Nazi 'secret state police' run by the cunning, authoritarian Sturmbannfuhrer Ludwig Kessler, whose devotion to Hitlers cause is boundless. Only when the Allies advance on the Ardennes after the Normandy landing, the rules and central cast start changing...

Kessler (1981)
In this spin-off from the World war II resistance-series 'Secret Army', the tables turn: ambitious, cruel Gestapo-officer Ludwig Kessler, the most implacable Nazi hunter of every opponent to the Reich, can no longer deny its rule is militarily annihilated by the Allies. He must now flee himself, being a first-rate war criminal responsible for numerous torture- and execution victims, but manages to get away with a fortune and starts a new life as a businessman, still hoping for another rise of the master race to power, in which his part should be even more prominent, from a (neo-)fascist colony in Paraguay. Meanwhile Albert Foiret, his former elusive chief of prey, and some of his collaborators now play a part in the hunt for the former master-hunter...

Secret Army tells the extremely realistic and true story about a Belgian escape route for British pilots during WWII. Citizens put their lives at risk to guide pilots along escape routes. This immensely popular series was broadcast on the BRT TV in 1979. Kessler is the spin off of the series.
