Psychological thriller: a psycho-analyst is found dead, apparently from suicide one of his patients, much shaken, thinks he has probably been murdered and starts an inquiry among the psycho-analyst other patients. Dr. Whitset, an eminent psychoanalyst, is found dying from a gunshot wound in his office. All the evidence points to suicide. Amongst his few, selected patients, Alex Stedman, a television celebrity, is profoundly distressed by his action. Stedman, who shuns any personal entanglements, is visited by Catherine, Whitset's fourteen year old daughter who begs him to clear her father's name and find his murderer. Stedman meets his fellow patients and cannot believe any of them guilty. He begins to doubt himself when Catherine reveals the name of the last patient?

One of Britain's leading psychiatrists has committed suicide. His teenage daughter (Pamela Franklin) is convinced that her father was murdered - and enlists the help of one of her father's patients, news reporter Alex Stedman (Stephen Boyd) to uncover the truth. As Stedman delves into the lives of his three suspects - a tormented art dealer (Richard Attenborough), a beautiful, lonely woman (Diane Cilento) and one of Britain's most respected judges (Jack Hawkins) - he has to battle with his own, re-emerging psychological terrors - and unravel The Third Secret...

A prominent London Psychologist seems to have taken his own life, causing stunned disbelief amongst his colleagues and patients. His teenage daughter refuses to believe it was suicide as this would go against all of the principles her father stood for, therefore she is convinced it was murder. She enlists the help of a former patient to try to get to the truth. The truth, however, turns out to be both surprising and disturbing.
