SAVE AND PROTECT (1989)
Inspired by Flaubert's Madame Bovary, SAVE AND PROTECT recounts the most crucial events of the heroine emma's decline and fall whilst exploring female passion in mesmerizing, exquisite detail.

THE SECOND CIRCLE (1990)
A haunting examination of sacrifice, spiritual communion and human dignity, THE SECOND CIRCLE tells the morally complex, heartrending story of a man confronting the death and burial of his father.

ELEGY OF LIFE (2006)
Sokurov himself features in this documentary portrayal of the most famous couple in Russian classical music; legendary cellist, pianist and conductor, Mstislav Rostropovich, and his opera singer wife, Galina Vishnevskaya, star of Sokurov's Alexandra.

Save and Protect (1990)
Sexual excess eventually degenerates into madness in this extremely explicit (and repetitive) feature from the late Soviet period in Russia. The story is loosely based on Madame Bovary and it takes place in a remote region of Russia, and is only vaguely anchored in time. It concerns the efforts of a highly imaginative and sensitive doctor's wife to bring some life to her dull existence.

The Second Circle (1990)
A man tries to come to terms with his father's death and to deal with the mundane details of his burial in a society cut off from spirituality.

Elegy of Life (2006)
A documentary about the famous musician Mstislav Rostropovich and his wife, Galina Vishnevskaya.
