Synopsis:

When hard-working cop John Paul Rocksavage witnesses the brutal murder of his partner, he decides enough is enough. He can no longer stand by and let injustice reign. Some people deserve to die... Rocksavage is a beat cop in Liverpool city centre. When someone calls the police, it's Rocksavage who responds, coming face to face with human life in all its extremes. But when his partner, Andy, is murdered in a frenzied, vicious attack while on duty, Rocksavage suddenly finds himself bound to respond, in a way he never thought himself capable of. Liverpool cop 'Sav' Rocksavage looks after his invalid father and is unsuccessfully trying to see his daughter by a recently returned girlfriend Cassie. Whilst off duty with colleague Andy Sav steps in to save waitress Amy being bullied by thuggish Noel Finch. Finch threatens him and soon afterwards the two young cops are lured to a house where Andy is set upon by Finch and his gang and dies. Later Sav returns to the house and shoots Finch dead before joining in the murder investigation. Then,with new partner Amanda,he recognizes another of Andy's attackers Callum ...

After Amanda and Sav fail to prevent a suicidal woman from jumping to her death they visit a homelessness hostel in an effort to identify her. Here they witness a drunk attack a man with a knife though the victim seems unwilling to cooperate with the police. Sav meets Cassie,who again refuses to let him see his daughter Chloe,and he also has sex with his father's nurse Justine. Callum Rose continues to ring him with blackmail threats regarding Finch's death,so Sav meets him and does what he has to do.

Investigating Rose's murder Sav is relieved to find that the only witness to his escape cannot identify him. He becomes involved in a domestic dispute,empathising with husband Brendan,who is also denied access to his child,but Brendan is also a possible witness and Sav,whilst helping Brendan, is keen to establish that he saw nothing. Jonjo Heinz,another of Finch's gang,comes to the police station to admit that he knew the two dead men but denies being one of Andy's attackers,which Sav knows to be untrue. Sav continues to stalk Heinz and goes to his house at night to shoot him though he changes his mind after seeing pictures of his children. Heinz is arrested on drugs charges but DCI Costello is suspicious of Sav's great interest in him. Some time later Sav and Amanda are called to a flat where a tax accountant has been shot dead with the Finch's gun but no conclusions are drawn.
