Synopsis:
First teaming of Grable and Dailey, no Astaire-Rogers but the next best thing, and making the most of a nostalgic score ('Put Your Arms Around Me, Honey', 'Rolling Down to Bowling Green', 'You Do', 'Kokomo Indiana') as a pair of turn-of-the-century vaudevillains. Warm, colourful and a real charmer, despite tiresome complications latterly when the couple's eldest daughter grows up a snob ashamed of her background.

In this chronicle of a vaudeville family, Myrtle McKinley (class of 1900) goes to San Francisco to attend business school, but ends up in a chorus line. Soon, star Frank Burt notices her talent, hires her for a 'two-act', then marries her. Incidents of the marriage and the growing pains of eldest daughter Miriam are followed, interspersed with nostalgic musical numbers.

Myrtle McKinley defies her family to become a chorus girl in a burlesque show. She marries the show's comedian and has a daughter, who grows to resent her show business career as much as Myrtle's family.
