Synopsis:
A youth, Markus Dorn (Christoph Waltz), hits his mother after she has unjustly accused him of being a drug user. At the police station, he reacts violently to the way he's being questioned and is sent to a mental institution. After two attempts to escape have failed, medicla and electric shock treatment have almost made him passive. An orderly, Brenner, who does his best to prevent this, is fired. A new and young doctor, Dr. Rene is able to stop the 'treatment'. She discharges Markus. The social Service Agency arranges for him to take care of Mrs. Lydia Mohn. He does this with great devotion and the old lady learns to trust him and to communicate with him. She gives him the home that his moithet failed to gove him.

Story of what happens when a sensitive boy from a turbulent background is confined to a mental institution and given electro-shock treatment, and what happens to him afterwards.
