Synopsis:
The task falls upon us to market Janine, says marketing manager Paul Popma, observing that nowadays, high art must be brought to the attention of the man and woman on the street in an accessible way. The mere fact that 32-year-old Janine Jansen is a gifted violinist is insufficient to guarantee her a place at the top. This film portrait reveals how this "Queen of the Download" (a description she owes to her high Internet sales) has to create a distinct media profile for herself. To this end, hard work is being carried out on the lifestyle magazine Janine, which presents her as a beautiful young and dynamic icon, fit to serve as an object of identification for "the modern woman." Following an interview with Janine, the journalist whose task it is to fill the magazine sighs and observes that great artists are often incredibly boring. His meeting with Janine's friend, former James Bond actor Roger Moore, is a little awkward. But the violinist is really in her element in a recording studio or rehearsal space, where she is constantly looking for the perfect way to perform a piece. Fellow music professionals - from her first violin teacher to her most recent conductor - are full of praise for Jansen's musical qualities. Janine herself speaks when her hectic travel schedule allows. And of course she delivers some of her celebrated violin music, ranging from Bach and Beethoven to Britten.

Music when played by violinist Janine Jansen comes straight from heaven. A top career, however, requires a lot of hard work. Even heavenly music is subject to the banalities of the market place. The artist struggles to achieve the best performance - what is paramount, perfect intonation or an interpretation straight from the heart? Meanwhile the music business has its own battles to win, using any means to hand. Janine Jansen lives for her music. 'I give all, and that is how it should be'. Still, there are limits, but where will she draw the line?

Janine, a behind-the-scenes documentary about the hectic life of the brilliant young musician.
