Synopsis:

The Niklashausen Journey (1970)
In The Niklashausen Journey, Fassbinder co-writes and co-directs with Michael Fengler an avant-garde - and stridently anachronistic - film about Hans Boehm, an historical shepherd who in 1476 claimed that the Virgin Mary called him to foment a holy war against the 'decadent' church and upper classes. Despite a temporary success, his followers were eventually massacred and he was burned at the stake.

Rio das Mortes (1971)
Mike and Gunther lead a boring life in Munich. Hanna, Mike's girl friend, wants to get married but he is not interested. The two friends get hold of a treasure map of the Rio das Mortes area and decide to set out to find it in Peru. They are looking for freedom and adventure. Against Hanna's opposition, the car is sold, and the two men try to raise money. Their ignorance and clumsiness seems to lead to failure, but eventually, by luck, they find a sponsor.

The Niklashausen Journey (1970)
Can a small group of people start a proletarian revolution, asks the 'Black Monk' in a leather jacket. The medieval shepherd, Hans Boehm, claims to have been called by the Virgin Mary to create a revolt against the church and the landowners. The 'Black Monk' suggests that he would have more success if he dressed up Johanna and had her appear as the Virgin Mary.

Rio das Mortes (1971)
Michel and Guenther, working in dead-end jobs, are obsessed with going to Peru to find buried treasure, using a map of the Rio das Mortes. Michel's girlfriend, Hanna, humors their plan, but really just wants to get married.
