Synopsis:
Like Storm Boy, Blue Fin is based on a best-selling story by Colin Thiele and also stars a young Greg Rowe, who plays Snook, the young son of an overbearing tuna-fishing captain (Hardy Kruger - Barry Lyndon) on the South Australian coast. Constantly in the shadow of his father and older brothers, the young boy is told he is unsuited to a life at sea. But when a treacherous storm almost destroys the family trawler (Blue Fin), Snook has a chance to prove himself. Also stars John Jarrett (Picnic at Hanging Rock, Wolfcreek) and Hugh Keays-Byrne (Stone, Kangaroo)

Based on the children's novel by celebrated South Australian author 'Colin Thiele', this is an emotional father and son story about tuna fishing of Southern Blue Fin tuna in South Australia's Port Lincoln fishing district. Accident prone son Snook is forever making mistakes much to the chagrin of his father Pascoe. But when tragedy strikes the fishing boat during a deep sea fishing trek in the Southern Ocean, the boy is called on to become a man in a rites of sea passage to reconcile is past mishaps and save both his father and the ship from certain disaster.

Story about a schoolboy, a misfit in school and in the community, who proves himself when his father's tuna boat BLUE FIN is wrecked far out at sea.
