Synopsis:
Ann, a reclusive elegant lady, with an obsession for butterflies, is surprisingly befriended by the eerily beautiful young Alice. Using her seductive innocence, Alice establishes a disturbing mother daughter relationship with Ann. Lured into her twisted world, Ann soon discovers that she is not the only recipient of the girl's affections. Confronted by Alice's other lady friends,
Ann's shock awakens a dark, hidden past, unchaining a spiral of madness: a series of brutal and bizarre crimes that Ann will have to commit to preserve her harmless and deceptive appearances. The only one who recognizes there's something unsettling about Ann, is nine year old Julie, her next door neighbor's daughter. With the inevitable curiosity of a child,
Julie begins to explore the corners of Ann's apartment, discovering a dark secret hidden in the walls of the forbidden butterfly room. No one believes what she's seen except for Ann's estranged daughter Dorothy. Horrified, she realizes that the fate of the young girl lies in her hands. To save both Julie, and herself, she must summon up the courage to confront an evil that has haunted her for years.

Anachronistic and lonely in a modern Los Angeles apartment block, an elegant British lady, Ann, likes to pin butterflies and keeps them in a special darkened room. But when her neighbors and the janitor (Ray Wise) get suspicious about the thuds from within her home, the story unveils an intriguing set of events that lead to terrible consequences. Ann is alone and looking for someone to love when she meets Alice, a pretty and beguiling schoolgirl in a shopping mall. Hypnotized by the girl's charm and unfulfilled as a mother, Ann quickly starts to bestow gifts and affection on her new friend. But all is not as it seems when Ann runs into Alice with yet another lady who is also spoiling her rotten. As Julie the little girl next door discovers, Ann's obsession with Alice is much more profound and sinister than a passing fancy.

A dark tale of a manipulative young girl, an eccentric older woman and a horrible secret which connects them not only features a distinct eerie vibe resembling European cult classics from the 70s and 80s, but also an amazing cast with an all-star Scream Queen ensemble fronted by horror legend Barbara Steele (Black Sunday, Pit and the Pendulum) with support from Erica Leehrsen (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre '03), Heather Langenkamp (A Nightmare on Elm Street), Camille Keaton (I Spit on Your Grave), P.J. Soles (Halloween, Carrie) and Adrienne King (Friday the 13th), with a further addition of Ray Wise (Twin Peaks), James Karen (Poltergeist, Return of the Living Dead) and director Joe Dante (Gremlins, The Howling).
