Synopsis:
THE MIMIC is centred around Martin Hurdle (Terry Mynott - 'Very Important People'), a seemingly unremarkable maintenance man who in fact conceals an exceptional talent... an uncanny ability to mimic voices. Labouring without prospect at a large pharmaceutical company, Martin's options appear bleak. His one true friend in life is a girl called Jean (Jo Hartley - 'This Is England') who, despite having the best intentions for Martin, is also his live-in landlord. The only other 'friend' Martin can really boast of is Neil (Neil Maskell - 'Utopia'), a newsagent petrified by the news. Now, in a huge revelation by a former lover, Martin is about to discover that he could be the father of an eighteen-year-old son called Steven (Jacob Anderson - 'Adulthood'). With their first meeting on the horizon, is this the news that will finally prompt Martin to escape his prolonged adolescence? And if it is, just how will he use his voices to cope with this life-changing development?

Season 1
Episode #1.1 S1, Ep1 Mar. 13, 2013
Martin Hurdle has a boring job as a maintenance man for pharmaceutical company CelPharm so he livens up his day impersonating celebrities. He hears that he has an eighteen year old son Steven and, pausing only to impersonate Ronnie Corbett stuck in a pillar box, goes to join the boy for lunch. The meeting is a success but when Martin asks his boss for a promotion to impress Steven he is rejected so he uses his skills as a mimic to obtain revenge.
Episode #1.2 S1, Ep2 Mar. 20, 2013
Martin rings ex-girlfriend Dionne to complain about her keeping Steven a secret before being given dubious dating tips by desperate newsagent Neil. Come the weekend he heads off for an Irish pub where he puts on a convincing accent to fool the residents. Steven tracks him down and is amazed by his father's talent, suggesting he makes money from it. Later Martin meets up with Dionne for a chat about old times with her justifying why she never told him about having a son. He then goes home to find his flat flooded.
Episode #1.3 S1, Ep3 Mar. 27, 2013
After the flood damage caused by Jean from upstairs leaving the bath taps on Martin takes his computer for repair and is almost arrested when a photo of himself as a baby is found on it. He arranges to meet Steven at the zoo but Steven has to go so he pretends to be David Attenborough as he escorts blind Della around and gives a commentary on the animals. He moves in with Neil who arranges a disastrous double date but introducing Steven to his family goes more smoothly. He then gets his revenge on the computer shop worker thanks to his Ian McKellen impression.
Episode #1.4 S1, Ep4 Apr. 3, 2013
Martin and Neil comfort Jean, dumped by her boyfriend, and Martin returns to the flat to share a - platonic - bed with her. Steven gets him a job doing celebrity voices for SatNav and whilst the engineer is out Martin ad-libs and is caught on the security camera. His impressions end up on Youtube and he becomes an anonymous celebrity with a possible television career. Sadly Steven also tells him that Dionne has cancer.
Episode #1.5 S1, Ep5 Apr. 10, 2013
Martin prepares for his television debut though, thanks to Jean's make-over,his skin is considerably darker and on the eve of the appearance he loses his voice. Neil takes him to see a doctor who diagnoses nerves but gives him tablets nonetheless. The voice returns as Martin makes it to the studio and finds himself in a talent contest pitted against a clever dog. Dionne turns up to support him and they agree to go on holiday together after the show. Martin nervously awaits his cue but then end titles roll over happy vacation snaps of Martin,Dionne,Steven and - now a ...
