Synopsis:
A Hitchcockian psychological thriller, Murder without Crime marked the directing debut of J. Lee Thompson, who would go on to score numerous box-office successes over four decades with a series of iconic films that made him a top-ranking director both in Britain and the US. Adapted from Thompson's own West End play Double Error, Murder without Crime is presented here in a brand-new transfer from the original film elements. When author Stephen and his wife Jan have a violent quarrel, both storm out of the house and it seems as if their marriage is at an end. Soon, Stephen finds himself embroiled in a situation from which there appears to be only one way out; in the power of a manipulative landlord, and having apparently killed a woman by accident, he fixes himself a lethal drink...

Future "spectacle" director J. Lee Thompson is confined to the theatrical limitations of his source material in Murder Without Crime. After a bitter quarrel with his wife Jan (Patricia Plunkett), Stephen (Derek Farr) goes off on a bender, picking up bar hostess Grena (Joan Dowling) along the way. As the evening progresses, Stephen gets involved in a fracas in his own home. When it's all over, Grena is lying on the floor, apparently dead. Upstairs neighbor Michael (Dennis Price), sensing that something's amiss, decides to indulge in a little blackmail. The ensuing complications include a most ambulatory "corpse" and a misapplied glassful of poison.

A man gets in trouble when he accidentally kills and covers up a murder of a girl he meet after a big fight with his wife.
