Synopsis:
With memorably unsettling opening credits and exceptional performances and direction, Armchair Thriller became a massive hit for Thames Television in the late 1970s and early 1980s.With its trademark ghoulish, razor-sharp cliff-hangers and iconic theme tune (by Roxy Music's Andy Mackay), this haunting anthology series was an immediate success - its eerie, disturbing and downright scary tales regularly attracting over 15 million viewers. Each of its ten stories is a gripping exercise in compelling television, showing ordinary people plunged into extraordinary situations. For many, this series remains a high-water mark of dramatic television and its many frightening and spooky moments are remembered by viewers nearly thirty years after its original transmission. This set contains all ten stories made by Thames Television. List of Films: Rachel in Danger (1978) A Dog's Ransom (1978) The Girl Who Walked Quickly (1978) Quiet as a Nun (1978) The Limbo Connection (1978) The Victim (1980) Dying Day (1980) Fear of God (1980) The Circe Complex (1980) The Chelsea Murders (1979)

Rachel in Danger (1978)
Ten-year-old Rachel is sent to live with her estranged father. However, just hours before her arrival, her father is murdered and his identity stolen by a terrorist.

A Dog's Ransom (1978)
This story reflects that view entirely. A middle class couple with a comfortable income and life style have a pet white miniature poodle named 'Tina'. An emigre from Poland, who is not so well off, envies and resents them. More from revenge than profit, he kidnaps and kills their dog, but demands 200 pounds ransom. When that is paid, he demands another 100 pounds and gets it. Of course, the couple never learn the fate of their dog. The police when the episode is reported, essentially refuse to do anything, except for a rookie constable who undertakes to identify the perpetrator on his own time...

The Girl Who Walked Quickly (1978)
A man is kidnapped and brainwashed by political extremists.

Quiet as a Nun (1978)
A reporter is asked to look into the mysterious death of a nun who died in a locked room at a convent.

The Limbo Connection (1978)
Film writer Mark Omney arranges to meet his wife, Clare, at their country cottage. But after treatment for food poisoning at a local clinic, Clare vanishes. As Mark follows the bizarre trail that might lead to her, he increasingly falls under suspicion - but becomes convinced that the clinic holds a terrible secret…

The Victim (1980)
14 year old schoolgirl Sue Craig has been kidnapped by two psychotics. Her father Vincent, a business executive, waits for the phone call...but when the telephone rings, his reaction shocks everyone. Instead of paying the ransom demand, he embarks on a hunt for the two abductors. The matter is further complicated when Sue begins to form an emotional attachment to one of her captors...

Dying Day (1980)
A lonely man with punctilious habits listens to a tape cassette of ambient barroom sounds, which include the hushed tones of two men plotting to kill him; but when a policeman listens, all the sounds are there except those of the two men.

Fear of God (1980)
A journalist finds his life is in danger when he investigates the death of a woman who was involved with a religious cult.

The Circe Complex (1980)
Tom Foreman (Trevor Martin) has hidden £400,000 worth of jewellery from a robbery and is now in prison, but his wife Val (Beth Morris) has a plan for aiding his escape. Meanwhile, Val becomes a tantalising prospect for a number of men all interested in the jewellery's whereabouts...

The Chelsea Murders (1979)
A serial murderer is on the loose in the bohemian borough of Chelsea and the police race the press to find the killer.
