Synopsis:
Whods have credited it? One minute CD (Ben Elton) is painting yellow fish on the road protesting against world pollution and trying to get laid and the next he's travelling halfway across Australia behind the lucious Rachel (Jacqueline McKenzie), on a mission he doesn't really understand or give a toss about, and still trying to get laid! It's Earth, sometime soon: the Greenhouse Effect has taken hold and so has the power of the Stark Corporation - a group of financial giants with more money than God and the social conscience of a dog on the croquet lawn. With the Stock Market in crisis and an inexplicable world economic recession biting, Wall Street journalist Chrissie Keating (Deborra Lee-Furness) is tempted by the story of a lifetime - corruption on a grand scale. But will her story be the death of her? Financial tycoon Sly Morgan (Colin Friels) has been tempted by an offer too lucrative to refuse. After all STARK only want him to acquire a useless piece of Aboriginal land. But what will the sale mean to the future of the Earth? Just why is STARK transporting large container ships full of toxic waste all over the globe? CD is tempted to to carry on being a useless, free-loading dole-bludger. Surely he's not going to stop gestating and do something really heroic and prove everyone wrong? Meanwhile, the race is on to save the Earth. Will there be time? Can CD rescue mankind on a camel? Will Rachel, as a radical non-squelcher, revoke her vow of celibacy? Is Jim Morrison really dead? Will CD ever get the girl - or any girl for that matter?

Based on a novel by satirical comedian (and dedicated environmentalist) Ben Elton, the British miniseries Stark was set in the bleak near-future, with mankind facing utter extinction due to rampant pollution. The action took place in Australia, home base for the Stark Conspiracy, a secret organization of politicians and corporate fat cats who intended to save themselves from Armageddon at the expense of everyone else on earth. When zillionaire Sly Morgan (Colin Friels) was invited to join the Stark group, gonzo journalist CD Dobson (played by author Ben Elton himself) intended to uncover the facts behind the organization. To this end, he began romancing Rachel (Jacqueline McKenzie), an activist in league with a group of overaged hippies who hoped to destroy Stark and save the world on their own. A co-production of BBC2 and Australia's ABC network, Stark originally aired in Britain in three 55-minute installments, from December 8 to 22, 1993.

Australian billionaire, Sly Morgan is invited to join the Stark Conspiracy, a group of the world's richest people who plan to save themselves from the Earth's impending environmental doom. Colin Dobson, or CD to his friends, tries to impress beautiful activist Rachel by joining her and a group of hippies on a mission to foil Stark's evil plan of environmental vandalism.
