Synopsis:
In a remote and primitive patriarchal village between the North of Africa and the Middle East, the land has dried and the women traditionally bring water from a distant fountain to their houses while the idle husbands drink tea in the bar. The educated Leïla, who is the wife of the local teacher Sami, begins a sex strike movement among the women, supported by the elder Vieux Fusil (meaning old flintlock), to force the men to bring water to the village. There is a strong reaction from the brutal men, but the brave women resist until they achieve their goal.

The women of a remote village have to trek up a steep hill to fetch water from the spring. With the support of her husband, Sami, beautiful young Leila suggests they all go on strike. No more sex! A love strike until the men pipe water to the village. The men's amused disdain turns to dismay then despair as the women's apparently hopeless cause gathers support, making the village a laughing stock. Will the women stick to it?

The Source is set in a small village somewhere between North Africa and the Middle East. For as long as anyone can remember, the women of the community have fetched water from a mountaintop spring in the blazing sun. Leila, a young new bride, urges the other women to go on love strike: no more sex until the men run water to the village.
