Synopsis:

Crownies are young solicitors in the Office of Public Prosecutions. Their passion for justice collides with the realities of huge caseloads rigid rules of evidence and a judicial system that struggles to protect the vulnerable and to find the truth behind human frailty. They are smart and ambitious and their closest colleagues are also their competitors. Because they play as hard as they work alliances are forged and trust is shared but eventually hard decisions must be made.

CROWNIES follows five young solicitors fresh out of law school, as they face the pressures and endearing madness of modern single life in a fast paced workplace that highlights the moral dilemmas and big issues facing an apparently civilized society. In a world that exists solely to see 'wrongdoers' brought to justice, and where the average age of the solicitors is 27, there is a big divide between these young solicitors and the barristers at the top. Yet they are the initial point of contact with the police, and it is they who do most of the liaising with the victims and the witnesses and recommend what goes to court. They are committed, idealistic and hardworking, but their lives away from the office are riddled with aspirations, explorations, fragile relationships and partying.

Crownies is an Australian television dramedy series that first screened on ABC1 in 2011. The series revolves around a group of solicitors fresh from law school, working with Crown Prosecutors or 'Crownies' who are the public prosecutors in the legal system of Australia, working for the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution. The series is filmed in Sydney, New South Wales, and according to many areas of the city mentioned in the show (e.g. Annandale), the story is set in Sydney.
