Synopsis:
***ATTENTION***Mixed language audio with English & German subtitles***Opstand in Sobibor deals with the present-day life of four people who, together with four hundred other people, took part in the famous revolt in Sobibor in 1943. Van den Bergh: "The most intense moment of survival for the people in the film was the escape from Sobibor. But after that, life continued for them. They have not stopped surviving. Therefore, I wanted to show that the drama stops and that reconciliation is possible. A number of video interviews has been incorporated in the film that Jules Schelvis did with survivors of Sobibor in 1984 and 1985. These took place in the days of the trial of Karl Frenzel, one of the camp executioners in Sobibor. For Lily van den Bergh, the meeting with Jules Schelvis in 1985 was the direct reason for making this film.

Ultra- secret extermination camp where about a quarter of a million Jews were murdered. 47 survived. 'Revolt in Sobibor' captures historically on film the audacious plan and subsequent, successful massive camp breakout, shattering the myth of the Jews being led as 'lambs to the slaughter'. Sobibor, like Be?zec and Treblinka, was one of the Nazi extermination camp as part of Operation Reinhardt: from 1942-1943 some 250,000 died there before Hitler ordered it to be razed to the ground following the revolt of 1943, led by Russian Red Army officer Alexander Pecherski.

Sobibor was the Nazi's original extermination camp for Jews. Due to its earlier design, though about 250,000 died there, the Nazis didn't consider this "efficient" enough, which is one reason why the later camps were built. Contrary to the myth that detainees went quietly to their deaths, there were occasional revolts and insurrections. One of them took place at Sobibor, and this documentary interviews some of the survivors of that camp and tells the story of those who died there. After the revolt, the Nazis destroyed the camp.
