Synopsis:
The Cannon family runs the High Chaparral Ranch in the Arizona Territory in 1870s. Big John wants to establish his cattle empire despite Indian hostility. He's aided by brother Buck and son Billy Blue. When Blue's mother was killed (in the first episode) John united his family with the powerful Montoyas by marrying their daughter Victoria (whose brother Manolito now lives with them as well).

John Cannon's family arrives at a ranch near Tuscon, Ariz. His wife names it High Chaparral. They learn they have two enemies - Apaches and a Mexican bandit. He hires ranch hands, recovers his cattle, but loses his wife to an Apache arrow.
The Arrangement S1, Ep2 10 Sep. 1967
John and Buck go south to strike a deal with Montoya. They encounter the man who stole John's horse and says he can take them to Montoya. He turns out to be Montoya's delinquent son and John gets his deal along with a new bride so seal it.

Victoria is over shadowed by the memory of Annalee. The rigid Big John refuses to let her make changes as he still feels their marriage is an arrangement with her father. A confrontation with Apaches and Victoria's old beau force a change.

Blue has his eye on a $300 silver saddle but only $18. He and the men decide they can win the money at the Fourth of July rodeo. When only John wins at the rodeo, it is left to Blue filling in at a prize fight for the boxer he hurt.

Buck and Manolito come upon two white girls being chased by Apaches. They are able to save the older girl but her sister is retaken by the Apaches. Buck promises they will attempt to save her sister but everyone knows it is not feasible.

Buck finds two wandering Apache boys chasing a steer. He gets Big John's approval to train them as cowhands. Skeptical locals assume they killed a rancher. After some hands are killed, the missing boys are assumed to be involved.

Blue and the son of the local Apache Chief are both after a wild black stallion. The fight over it may spill over into a war with the tribe but the Chief allows Blue to keep the horse. When his son steals the horse, the problem resurfaces.
Ten Little Indians S2, Ep2 27 Sep. 1968
Pima Indians are attacking and killing Apaches in the area. Blue and Buck find two orphaned Apache boys that trail them back to the High Chaparral and morph into ten Apache kids. One is the grandson of Geronimo putting the ranch in danger.

Sam receives a letter causing him to return home to kill a man who is also a good friend. The men learn from San and his brother Joe that Sam has a wife and daughter. Worried the men decide to follow to support Sam's quest for revenge.

After the stage Victoria is on is attacked by Comancheros, she finds herself in the desert with an injured man who she learns wants to kill her husband. While trying to find the way to Tucson, they are captured by the Comancheros.

The ranch is running low on supplies as Apaches led by a half breed steals them. They capture him and Manolito finds a girl after the last raid. However, the girl is not who they think and releases their captive after telling their plans.

The Tenth Cavalry comes to Tucson to stop crime. They are Buffalo Soldiers who must also contend with racism. With aid from the Cannons they show their pride and great ability as they take on the man controlling the town and his henchmen.

The next day is Thanksgiving so Victoria and the hands have a desire for turkey but the only source is a man squatting on Big John's land. Starting with a turkey shoot in Tucson the men have ups and downs in having a traditional holiday.

Three escaped convicts from Yuma kill a girl with gypsy shepherds. They come upon Big John who they knock out and leave in one of the convicts clothes to blame him for the murder. The herders want $15,000 the convicts hid for his release.

The local priest continues to collect funds each year to eventually pay for the return of a lost religious statue. Still short of funds, Big John offers to make up the difference. However, the well meaning priest has been less than honest.

Blue finds a black Army deserter in the desert needing help who says he was mistreated by a Colonel. Blue tells Manolito and decides to return with supplies. However, the deranged man takes Blue hostage into the Apache Forbidden land.

The Cannon family and hands attend a fiesta celebrating peace. However, when they spot a group of well known outlaws which includes Manolito and Victoria's childhood friend, trouble erupts when they reveal they are scalp hunters.

Miners have gone on strike at a nearby mine. Manolito has been working with their leader and is trying to convince Big John to help as well. When the law proves to be one sided, Manolito's help causes the situation to blow up - literally.

After spotting a blonde white woman with a group of Apaches, Blue cannot resist the urge to free her against the advice of Buck and Manolito. He frees her but is captured and her Apache husband wants her returned in return for Blue.

Victoria returns to her father after a spat with Big John interrupting her father's time with the visiting Countess Maria. Manolito competes for her time while she gives Victoria sage advise on relationships as Big John returns for her.

The men deliver a herd and celebrate in the local town. The town is rough and Blue has the misfortune to draw the ire of a professional gunman. Blue decides he must stay in town and face the man against the wishes of his dad and the men.

A female friend from Manolito's very early days returns to visit his dad's ranch. She has refused an arranged marriage and free spirit much like Manolito. He decides she is the one but Comancheros stop his plans when they kidnap her.

Blue is a temporary deputy for a weekend during which Well Fargo is held up. He arrests Buck and Manolito for disorderly conduct and they unwittingly help him capture the robbers in a weekend of tricks and paybacks between them.

Buck and Victoria are held up as they travel to her dad's hacienda with $1500. Victoria is taken hostage by the robbers and forced to work as the hostess in a bar. Buck heads after her but is captured so they plot their own escape.

Buck runs into his Captain from the war in the Army as a Sergeant leading a patrol and wagon of gold to Yuma. They needing a scout. He takes on the role only to find his friend and men are stealing the gold and crossing into Mexico.

Blue's style of drawing draws teasing from the men and Big John's concern he is ignoring his work. Victoria submits his work back east where it is published. When he receives an offer to go back east to study, Big John is hurt.

Buck and Manolito go with Victoria to protect her on the way to another ranch to help deliver a baby. However, an attack by Apaches lead to Victoria being taken hostage by an Apache followed by three bank robbers who threaten to kill her.

An Anger Greater Than Mine S4, Ep1 18 Sep. 1970
Both the High Chaparral and Montoya's hacienda are threaten by a man who wants revenge for having his hacienda sold by the government to Montoya. Adding to the problem, he was the childhood sweetheart of Victoria who he wants back.
Spokes S4, Ep2 25 Sep. 1970
Against the advice of the others Buck goes to the town of Spokes for the Fourth of July. Instead celebrating he saves an old hide hunter from the father of the man he killed who he caught cheating at cards and from the townspeople.
Only the Bad Come to Sonora S4, Ep3 2 Oct. 1970
Manolito is return to the High Chaparral with Montoya's stallion after paying a breeding fee for Big John. On the way back the stallion and his money are stolen. His father persuades Manolito he should make an effort to recover the horse.
Wind S4, Ep4 9 Oct. 1970
Big John proposes the ranchers work together to drive their own herds to Wichita instead of Texas to increase their profit. However, it appears the Apaches may be causing problems with a young brave Big John released helping them.
A Matter of Survival S4, Ep5 16 Oct. 1970
Victoria along with Sam and Pedro come under attack by Apaches along with a baby and his grandfather. They are fifty miles from the ranch with the Apaches staying on their trail with horses that are wore out and no food for the baby.
It Takes a Smart Man S4, Ep6 23 Oct. 1970
Tulsa Red arrives at the ranch asking Big John for $5000. When he refuses, Tulsa threatens to kill Buck the next time he comes to Tucson. Big John decides to pay but when Buck learns about it, he retrieves the money in spite of the threat.

When Big John decides to sell supplies to Maximillian revolutionaries in Mexico, he creates a lot of animosity. The community, the hands, Buck, Manolito and even his wife Victoria fight him. Sam and Wind, however, stick with him.

On a trip to sell cattle Manolito recovers the money stolen from a stage, but is charged with stealing it himself. After a friend has him released from jail, he is framed for the murder of the town founder and in deeper trouble with the law.

Two young Apaches clash over what the tribe should do as their Chief dies. One wants to kill the white men while the other who has been chosen as the new Chief wants peace with the whites. Big John has to decide if he can trust the offer.
Fiesta S4, Ep10 20 Nov. 1970
On the way to a wild time at Fiesta in Mexico, Buck runs into the sport of boy fighting in a cantina. He rescues the losing boy from the fight and his owner but finds the boy and himself in danger from the men he took the boy from.
A Matter of Vengeance S4, Ep11 27 Nov. 1970
Dan Casement returns on the hunt for three men who burned his ranch and killed his grandson. He rescues Buck and then returns to the High Chaparral to return a crucifix Victoria had given to his grandson Joey while Sam decides to help him.
Pale Warrior S4, Ep12 11 Dec. 1970
A young white man held as a slave by the Apache is chased by them to the ranch house where the Cannons protect him. However, Wind and the hands don't trust him although he says he hates the Apache so they accept him with reservations.
The Badge S4, Ep13 18 Dec. 1970
After finding his wanted poster, Buck tells Victoria and Manolito about his life after the war as a wanted man. Big John was a lawman who tracked him down helping him against his Civil War pals who held up a bank for which Buck was wanted.
The New Lion of Sonora S4, Ep14 19 Feb. 1971
After the death of Don Sebastion, his ranch is willed to his brother whose only concern is gambling, women, drinking, and a good time. Manolito who didn't want it must convince his uncle to save the ranch and to work with Big John as well.
Sangre S4, Ep15 26 Feb. 1971
Big John recalls all the hands to the ranch as Buck finds a wounded Apache who attacks him. The Apache is taken back to the ranch which prepares for an attack. Three troopers arrive who inform them the Apache is Sangre who is their Chief.
The Hostage S4, Ep16 5 Mar. 1971
Victoria and Wind go to the Tucson bank as the Army deposits a money shipment. After the Army leaves, a trio of bank robbers enters. In the mêlée the only man with the combination is knifed. The six hostages have an unsure fate if he dies.
A Man to Match the Land S4, Ep17 12 Mar. 1971
Big John and Red Eagle trade brothers while Big John is allowed to round up horses on Apache land. Red Eagle's brother White Horse is a despised white man but when his Apache wife Tanea is sick, he comes for a white doctor to save her.
