Synopsis:

In life, we first organize large stones (Piedras) such as love, friendship, family, and a career. In this way, we will find space between these to fit smaller stones, our small necessities. If you act in an inverse way, you will not have the room for larger stones. The five protagonists of my film are women who have not been able to organize the large 'stones' in their lives. Ramón Salazar, Spanish director defines his first feature Stones in this way. The film tells the parallel, conflicting trajectory of five women: Anita, Isabel, Adela, Leire, and Maricarmen. All are endeavoring to remove the stones that insistently appear in their path or, worst, that are in their shoes. They are five Cinderellas in search of prince charming and a new chance in life.

Stones is a film about shoes which functions on the old Native American proverb, 'Never judge a man until you've walked a mile in his moccasins.' The shoes, in this case, belong to an ensemble of wacky characters whose lives are anchored to a brothel on the outskirts of Madrid. Adela is a long-suffering madam who must balance whoring with motherhood; Anita is her disabled, dog-obsessed daughter; Joaquin is one of Adela's most loyal clients, a tango-dancing businessman; Maricarmen is a taxi driver who can't get over her husband's death; Isobel is an eccentric rich woman fascinated by a foot-reading fortune teller; and Liere is a washed-up shoe designer. Together, this motley crew struggles to scrape through life and stay happy, learning to look beyond the quality of the shoes that they wear and to appreciate their quirky personality traits. This first feature film by Spanish director Ram?n Salazar shows many influences from the films of Pedro Almodóvar, which often feature an ensemble cast in a slice-of-life situation where the rules of the normal world need not apply.

With a strong cast of Spanish stars Piedras is a pure reality bytes film. Following the story of five different women in Madrid, all looking for a new start and a new chance in life - all leading separate lives but their fates are soon entwined.
