Synopsis:
British romantic drama starring David Morrissey, Sheridan Smith and Olivia Colman. Property consultant Carl Matthews (Morrissey) lives with his wife Maggie (Colman) and their two unappreciative teenage children on the outskirts of London. Every morning he commutes via the 7.39 train to the city where he works for a demanding boss who only serves to heighten his dissatisfaction with the way his life is going. One morning, he meets the much-younger Sally (Smith) who is likewise unhappy in her own relationship. Over the course of the following days the pair become more and more intimate with each other, but will their affair last or is it merely a passing fling?

Married to Maggie with two teen-age children Carl Matthews is disenchanted with his job at a commercial lettings agency to which he commutes daily. Fellow commuter Sally Thorn, who manages a gym, is divorced but engaged to Ryan, who annoys her with his insistence on a lavish wedding. After fighting over a seat on the train Sally and Carl become friends and the friendship turns into an affair. Carl, now made redundant, hopes it will never end but Sally is more realistic, particularly as she is pregnant by Ryan, who wants them to move to Australia. Learning of the affair Maggie throws Carl out but both she and Sally turn up at Casualty after Ryan has beaten Carl up. With which of the women will Carl eventually end up?

After fighting for a seat on their morning commute, Sally and Carl begin talking and suddenly their daily train journey becomes a lot more interesting. Carl is happily married, Sally's engaged - where's the harm? Yet they find themselves increasingly drawn to each other, and as their friendship grows to flirtation they refuse to admit - to each other or themselves - that a line might be crossed. The consequences of discovery will be life-changing, catastrophic perhaps, and yet they can't help falling in love. A romantic drama for grown-ups, The 7.39 is charged, funny, moving and sexy.
