Synopsis:
Based on Jim Bancks's much-loved Australian comic strip, first appearing in 1921, Ginger Meggs is the live-action adaptation of a tale about an unruly, young mischief maker who is constantly getting himself in trouble in spite of his good intentions. In an Australian country town in the 1940s, Ginger Meggs' (Paul Daniel) reputation precedes him - he is a headstrong and boisterous prankster who plays truant, gets involved in fights and tells tall tales. While searching for his stolen monkey, Ginger encounters a jewel thief and sets out to win the heart of childhood crush Minnie Peters (Shelley Armsworth). However, along with the never-ending nuisance of school life, his rival Eddie Coogan, and bully Tiger Kelly - life can be tough for a young upstart - especially if there's fishing to be done! Presented in a brand new transfer, expertly photographed by Oscar winner John Seale ACS and featuring Aussie acting stalwarts Garry McDonald, Harold Hopkins, Ross Higgins, John Wood, Terry Camilleri and Hugh Keays-Byrne, Ginger Meggs is a colourful comic delight, celebrating the cheeky side of Aussie life.

Ginger Meggs (Paul Daniel) is a young "Dennis the Menace" who first appeared in Australian comic strips in 1921. In this film meant for the pre-teen set, Ginger is constantly getting himself in trouble in spite of his good intentions -- at the same time, he prevaricates, he disobeys his teachers and parents, he skips school, or while in school, fights it out with the bullies -- all activities that are bound to capture the attention of children who can vicariously enjoy the forbidden behavior.

The escapades of Ginger Meggs, local larrikin. He's trying to win the heart of Minnie Peters, but the pressures of school, his rival Eddie Coogan and bully Tiger Kelly make life tough for him. Besides, there's fishing to be done.
