Man with a Movie Camera (1929)
This playful film is at once a documentary of a day in the life of the Soviet Union, a documentary of the filming of said documentary, and a depiction of an audience watching the film. Even the editing of the film is documented. We often see the cameraman who is purportedly making the film, but we rarely, if ever, see any of the footage he seems to be in the act of shooting!
Kino Eye (1924)
This documentary promoting the joys of life in a Soviet village centers around the activities of the Young Pioneers. These children are constantly busy, pasting propaganda posters on walls, distributing hand bills, exhorting all to "buy from the cooperative" as opposed to the Public Sector, promoting temperance, and helping poor widows. Experimental portions of the film, projected in reverse, feature the un-slaughtering of a bull and the un-baking of bread.
Kino Pravda no. 21 (1925)
Kino-pravda no. 21 - Leninskaia Kino-pravda. Kinopoema o Lenine. The best-known of a series of 23 "newsreels" by Vertov (1922-1925), is No. 21, "21-aya Kino-Pravda Leninskaya - K godovshchine smerty" (1925), which commemorates the first anniversary of Lenin's death.
Enthusiasm (1931)
How the miners of the Don coal basin (one of the industrial regions of Ukraine) were striving to fulfill in four years their part of the Five Year Plan.
Three Songs About Lenin (1934)
Three anonymous songs about Lenin provide the basis for this documentary that celebrates the achievements of the Soviet Union and Lenin's role in creating them.
