Synopsis:
Collection of five films starring Luca Zingaretti. In 'Cefalonia' (2005), when over 500 officers and 11,000 Italian soldiers deployed between Kefalonia and Corfu receive the news that their country has sought an armistice, their thoughts turn to home and a reunion with their families. In 'Perlasca: The Courage of a Just Man' (2002), though Giorgio Perlasca (Zingaretti) was initially a supporter of Italian fascism and fought for Mussolini in East Africa during the Italo-Abyssinian War, he became increasingly disenchanted with the doctrine as it merged with Hitler's anti-Semitic vision. 'Come Into the Light' (2005) follows the story of Don Giuseppe Puglisi (Zingaretti), a priest from Palermo, who fights against the local Mafia-controlled environment to save young children and teenagers from becoming involved in a life of crime. 'Paolo Borsellino: The 57 Days' (2012) traces the 57 days after the assassination of his friend and fellow anti-Mafia judge Giovanni Falcone when Paolo Borsellino (Zingaretti) must come to terms with his own inescapable destiny. Lastly, in 'Calling Inspector Marotta' (2000), Inspector Giovanni Marotta (Zingaretti) is despatched to Rome in 1925 following a tip-off about a major robbery in the pipeline.

Come Into the Light (2005)
Padre Puglisi a priest from a mafia-controlled district of Paleremo, helps kids to get off the streets and in his church creates an embracing place of hope and righteousness, which means trouble for the local mafia. He continues his solitary fight until the bitter end.
Paolo Borsellino The 57 Days (2012)
Alberto Negrin directs this Italian drama starring Luca Zingaretti. The film traces the 57 days after the assassination of his friend and fellow anti-Mafia judge Giovanni Falcone when Paolo Borsellino (Zingaretti) must come to terms with his own inescapable destiny.
Cefalonia (2005)
Cefalonia tells the real story about what happened in September 1943 on the Greek island of Kefalonia (Cefalonia in Italian), when the 12,000 men in the Italian 33rd Acqui Infantry Division, following Italy's surrender to the Allied, refused to put themselves under German command and also refused to surrender their weapons. The local German force, supported by Stuka dive-bombers and additional troops, attacked the Italians and after several days of combat the Italians surrendered, having lost 1,300 men. As punishment, the German High Command ordered that all surviving Italians should be executed. Some 5,000 were executed during a week of killings. A handful were rescued by locals and the Greek guerrilla, while the rest were shipped off as prisoners, whereof 3,000 drowned when their ships hit mines. The film "Captain Corelli's Mandolin" is based on a novel about the Italian occupation of Cefalonia, but the massacre was much toned down in the Hollywood version.
Calling Inspector Marotta: St. Peter's Treasure (2000)
Rome is on the thresh-hold of the Holy year 1925, the city wishes to present itself as 'spotless' to the outside world. The appearance of a child's corpse puts an end to these aspirations. The police arrest a small time crook who has committed a robbery but has nothing to do with the murder of the child. His 'fence' the jeweler BALETTA, who is also a member of the ruling political party, suggests a deal: the crook goes free and in return Barlett will spill the beans on a planned robbery of the treasury in the Vatican. The police agree to the deal, and soon after one of Barletts contacts is found dead. The police send officer Guglielmo Motta, who is not known in Rome, under cover as a wealthy 'fence' ( dealer in stolen goods). He slips into the criminal milieu thanks to the helpful charms of the lovely Lulu- they fall in love. Guglielmo gets scared when the body of Barlett shows up, and Lulu treats him with a new coldness. He wants out! The police chief dismisses this request. To top all of this Guglielmo's wife is jealous, and his mother in law seriously ill. Lulu hasn't missed the fact that Guglielmo has gone on ' home leave' and dissappointed, she is prepared to work with a mafioso who knows the 'real' Guglielmo. Back from holiday Guglielmo ends up making contact with the Vatican robbers through a criminal intermediary. He is supposed to fence the goods. After the Vatican robbery has gone off with out any hitches, he waits at the agreed location for the hand over. Thanks to a letter written by Lulu, who regrets her double dealing and has out of desparation committed suicide, Guglielmo knows about the mafia gangster. And indeed, he is able to arrest all of the robbers, and retrieve the goods. An unsung hero, Guglielmo returns to his quiet life at the side of his wife Maria.
Perlasca: The Courage of a Just Man (2002)
It is the real story of Giorgio Perlasca (Luca Zingaretti). During the 1920s he was an Italian Fascist supporter, fighting in Africa an in the Spanish civil war where he deserved a safe conduct for Spanish embassies. After some years, disillusioned by fascism, he is a fresh supplier for the Italian army. In the war years he is in Budapest for his business. He lives an easy life there, well introduced into the Hungarian high society, without any problem coming from the war situation. When the Nazi occupied Hungary, in 1944, instead to leave (Italy had already surrendered to the Allies) he escaped to the Spanish embassy in Budapest using his old safe conduct and becoming a Spanish citizen, changing name into Jorge Perlasca. He starts working as a diplomat here. When Sanz Briz (Geza Tordy), the Spanish consul, is removed, Perlasca immediately substitutes him, like if he was officially appointed from Spanish authorities. All the Nazi, the Hungarian authorities believe him. In his new fake assignment, he starts immediately to hide, shield and feed a lot of Jews (thousands!) issuing Spanish (fake of course) safe conducts for the Jews of Sephardic origin. He is in contact with another Hero of that time, Raoul Wallenberg. The two, together with other volunteers, running incredible risks had saved thousands of Hungarian Jews from a tragic death. Incredibly Perlasca succeeded to save two boys directly from the hands of Adolf Eichmann at the train station. This hero, after the war, was completely forgotten, and his story comes out just in the 1980s because some of the Hungarian Jews wanted to meet him again.

But their initial elation soon turns to gloom, however, when they learn that their former German allies have issued them with an ultimatum to surrender or fight. In 1944, while based in Budapest for the purposes of business, Perlasca was confronted directly with the horror of the Holocaust and, unlike so many others, didn't turn a blind eye but did whatever he could to save lives. 'By the Light of Day' (2005) follows the story of Don Giuseppe Puglisi (Zingaretti), a priest from Palermo, who fights against the local Mafia-controlled environment to save young children and teenagers from becoming involved in a life of crime. However, his plans to interfere with the way the Mafia conduct their business means he becomes a threat to those in power. 'Paolo Borsellino: The 57 Days' (2012) traces the 57 days after the assassination of his friend and fellow anti-Mafia judge Giovanni Falcone when Paolo Borsellino (Zingaretti) must come to terms with his own inescapable destiny. Marotta goes undercover and quickly gains access to the group planning the heist and even develops a romantic relationship with female gang member Lulu (Meret Becker). Astonishingly, the target of the robbery is St Peter's Treasure. Can Marotta foil the plot before priceless relics are lost?
