After an illegitimate daughter and two marriages, she finally meets the love of her life, Paul McGill, but their affair is cut short by a tragic accident, leaving Emma with his daughter. In the 1980's Emma faces one of her biggest tests - her childrens attempt to remove her as head of her company, but Emma is far from the senile old woman they think she is - she is determined to stop them at all costs.
Hold the Dream (1986)
Two-part, followup with Deborah Kerr, now playing Emma Harte at age 80 in the last winter of her life and dealing with her granddaughter Paula, as well as her respected advisor Henry Rossiter and Blackie O'Neill.
To Be the Best (1992)

A Woman of Substance (1984)
The made-for-television adaptation of Barbara Taylor Bradford's A Woman of Substance stars Jenny Seagrove (ages 15 to 49) and Deborah Kerr (ages 50 to 79) as Emma Harte, a character who grows from maid to internationally feared and respected businesswoman. The all-star cast also includes Liam Neeson, Barry Morse, and Barry Bostwick. In part one, subtitled 'Nest of Vipers,' Emma is discharged from her job after a desultory affair with her employer's son (Peter Chesolm). In part two, subtitled 'The Secret is Revealed,' Emma heads to Leeds, where she starts a small business. Her enterprise blossoms beyond her wildest dreams, and she eventually becomes the wealthiest woman in the region. In part three, subtitled 'Fighting for the Dream,' Emma expands her business activities beyond the small town of Leeds and seeks vengeance on the aristocratic family that has wronged her. She also falls in love with handsome Major Paul McGill (Barry Bostwick).
Hold the Dream (1986)
This television mini-series sequel to A Woman of Substance finds aging businesswoman Emma Harte (Deborah Kerr) preparing to hand over her empire to granddaughter Paula Fairley (Jenny Seagrave), much to the dismay of the rest of the family.
To Be the Best (1992)
Lindsay Wagner stars as Paula O'Neill in this made-for-TV miniseries based on the best-selling novel by Barbara Taylor Bradford. Paula's grandmother, Emma Harte, took a failing department store and turned it into the powerful Harte Industries retail empire, and now that Paula has inherited the family business, she is determined to expand their international success by launching a new store in Hong Kong. However, Paula's cousins Jonathan (Christopher Cazenove) and Sarah (Claire Oberman) are determined to wrest control of the company away from Paula, and begin running interference in her plans for global expansion. Paula soon learns that Harte Industries is on financially shaky ground, and her personal life begins to crumble under the strain of keeping Hart Enterprises afloat. As Jonathan uses the firm's financial woes to his advantage, Paula finds that Jack Figg (Anthony Hopkins), the company's head of security, may be her last line of defense against her devious relatives. Originally broadcast in August 1992, To Be the Best was a follow-up to 1983's A Woman of Substance, another miniseries based on a Barbara Taylor Bradford novel, which covered Paula's life before she took over the family business; Diane Baker played Paula in the earlier series.
