Synopsis:

Richard's marriage is on the rocks, his company is on the brink of bankruptcy, his teenage daughter Marie only communicates with him through sullen mumblings, and his 75-year-old mother Hilde can no longer be left alone. Calling her forgetfulness "stubbornness" doesn't work anymore. It's a slow unraveling of the mind, a synaptic fireworks in Hilde's private theater. The time has come to take her to a nursing home, but Hilde will have none of it. At least not until she makes a pilgrimage to the Black Madonna, an ancient statue said to work miracles. As the little family sets out on an unexpected journey, Hilde keeps disappearing, Marie pouting and Richard facing old, unresolved issues with his mother. Yet there is still room for joy and warmth on the byways of life…
