Untitled - Sans Titre (2005)

Growing Up (1967)
Growing Up, Breien's debut, is based on a medieval legend about a little girl who is the sole survivor of the bucolic plague. The film is set in a secluded mountain landscape through which the lonely child helplessly wanders. A group of men from a neighboring village set out to help her.
May 17th - a film about rituals (1969)
A satirical film about the Norwegian National Day, 17th of May, which has developed into a day filled with phrases and empty rituals. Prize winner Oberhausen 1970.
Faces (1971)
A short documentary about faces - expressions, situations. The film is based on Edvard Munchs portraits, accompanied by a poem by the Danish poet Paul Borum.
The Walls Around The Prison (1972)
In this critique of the Norwegian penal system, Breien continues a plot begun in her first feature, Rape (1971). Interviews with anonymous individuals accompany images of the cold prison architecture, and reveal insights into the living conditions of the inmates.
Homeless (1973)
Reportage about the unworthy living conditions and the dismal life of the homeless.
Hello, My Sibling (1974)
In this unconventional presentation of works by the Norwegian graphic artist Arne Bendik Sjur, Breien visits his workshop and follows the artist into his pictorial world.
Old People (1975)
About the pensioners' situation in Norway in 1975.
Mountain (1989)
In Mountain, a nostalgic documentary in which Anja Brejen works on both sides of the camera, the main character is the director's father, painter Hans Breien. Like in the good old days, he embarks on a journey with his daughter to find artistic inspiration in raw mountain landscapes. The father's world, winnowed to a photo-filled hospital room by old age, catches some old wind in its sails.
Solvorn (1997)
Breien takes us back to the past through a remarkable series of photographs taken by her grandmother between 1908 and 1913 at Solvorn in Western Norway.
To See a Boat in Sail (2001)
In this impression about the relation between the summer of youth and winter of old age, an elderly man living in the picturesque surroundings of a lake near Rondane mountain, recalls his past with a Neapolitan song. When he was a boy, he was particularly happy to see a boat in sail - the sweet and sour taste of the past life returns to him in strange circumstances.
Untitled - Sans Titre (2005)
I like the fact that painters and graphic artists often name their works «without title» or «sans titre». In that way, they avoid programming the viewer, who is allowed to study the image with an open mind. Like in this film. A film without a title - but also without dialogue.
