The Banquet of the Concubine (2012)
The banquet of the concubine In the year 746, during the Tang Dynasty, a banquet is given in the Imperial City in honour of Emperor Li's favourite concubine. An unsatisfied craving, suspected infidelity and fevered imagination lead Yang to bitter excess, which not even the luscious lychee can appease.
Rains (2008)
A sudden rainstorm is unleashed on a city. Everyone seeks refuge. When the clouds thin out, life continues.
The Barewolf (2010)
The werewolves that live in this secluded place are particularly savage: when not attacking anything that moves, they spend their time arguing and fighting. Driven by instinct, one young werewolf chases pink flamingos through the wild, straying far from home. Before he knows it, he's in a place he knows nothing about: the world of humans. Surrounded by things he'd never seen before-garden gnomes and plastic animals-he attacks them wildly. Suddenly, he encounters a man who attacks him in turn, leaving him with a magic bite mark. The young wolf staggers back home, where he gradually recovers, though he's not quite the same. One day, a rainbow appears. Our werewolf immediately transforms into a human being, and sets about abusing his former brethren. Shocked and dismayed, the werewolves howl bitterly at their fate.
Kali, the Little Vampire (2012)
This is the story about a boy not like the others that dreams about finding his place in the world.
The Wordcutter (2009)
In a country where people literally feed on letters from words gathered in trees, reading is vital not to die of boredom. A Wordcutter makes an encounter that will change his life forever.
Rosa Rosa (2008)
A married woman has an affair. She gets pregnant by her lover and they live serenely together, although war is thundering towards their city. Despite lineups, traffic jams and shortages they manage to live a peaceful life with their little girl.
The Sense of Touch (2014)
A mesmerizing film which shows the relationship between a deaf and mute couple. Each of their gestures are substitute for words and each touch, each dance, is a display of emotion. Directed by animator and dancer Jean-Charles Mbotti, this film shows the beauty in silence and clearly displays Mbotti's love of dance and movement.
The Circus (2010)
In the vestibule of a hospital room, a young boy waits to see his dying mother. The clamor and spiralling movements of bodies around him intensify, forming a grotesque circus-a cacophonous circle that pushes the child back, depriving him of one final touch of his mother's hand. Using rotoscoped drawings suggestive of charcoal sketches, as well as 3D and object animation techniques, The Circus compels viewing with its unsettling realism. Colour is employed metaphorically to subtly express the promise and the memory of maternal affection. Nicolas Brault's highly personal film, suffused with poetic modesty, casts a poignantly sincere gaze on the heartbreak of a child facing the fearful, mysterious experience of his mother's death.
The Conquerors (2011)
In this animated short, a young couple washed onto a strange, inhospitable shore, attempts to transform the land into an Eden. Through great effort they prosper, learning to conquer nature and their environment. But what will their victory mean? Alternately a vision of paradise and purgatory, with allusions to the Book of Genesis and prehistory, the film tells the story of human beings and their conquests, offering a dark, critical view of the rise and fall of civilizations.
