Synopsis:
Murdock Troon, an enthusiastic member of the local cycling club, gets involved with Charles Chingford, a local businessman, when the two of them are involved in an accident. Then Murdock meets Chingford's daughter, Claire, who persuades him to give up the bicycle, buy a sports car, and learn to drive. At first he is horrified, but the thought of dating the attractive Claire, he relents, and takes his first driving lesson.-The star of this slapstick comedy is not a person but an antique Bentley sports car, the source of several misadventures. Murdoch Troon (Stanley Baxter) is a simple civil servant who has his heart set on romancing Claire (Julie Christie in an early role), the daughter of wealthy businessman Charles Chingford (James Robertson Justice). As a part of his scheme to appear irresistible, Murdoch takes driving lessons so he will be able to impress Claire in the Bentley. Both the lessons and his driving test produce moments of hilarity, and as might be expected, there cannot be a movie featuring a car without a wacky, wild chase.

Classic British comedy, starring Stanley Baxter and Julie Christie. Murdoch Troon (Baxter) is a shy civil servant attracted to the vivacious Claire (Julie Christie), the daughter of a prominent businessman. In an attempt to impress Claire, Troon acquires a vintage Bentley racer, 'The Fast Lady', and undertakes a series of driving lessons to learn how to handle the car. Needless to say, Troon's attempts to impress Claire don't go entirely according to plan.

A Scottish civil servant (Stanley Baxter) must learn how to drive a Bentley to impress his girlfriend's (Julie Christie) tycoon father (James Robertson Justice).
