Synopsis:

When his buddy Maremmi is murdered, playboy prosecutor Alberto Lenzi finally wakes up: For years he's been hiding beneath a cloak of resignation. But now he decides to stop turning a blind eye to the mob in his home of Calabria. He sets out to find the killer, unveiling an international toxic waste ring in the process.

Even though everything indicates the local Mafia is behind the murder, Lenzi has his doubts. He finds another lead Maremmi was following. Several nearby areas have been exposed to radioactive contamination while terracing the landscape. The cancer rate has risen sharply in surrounding towns. Lenzi is determined to get to the bottom of it. But then his son Enrico is kidnapped - Mob boss Rezzia is sending him a message to mind his own business. But as soon as the boy is released, Lenzi picks up the case again, leading him north to Cologne, Germany, where civil engineer Baullo has contacts to an import/export firm. The CEO there denies any knowledge of toxic waste transports. In order to flush out the criminals, Lenzi announces he will give the press names. And sure enough, Don Rezzia shows up with Inspector Brighi at his side, and a gun battle ensues....
