Synopsis:
The movie tells the story of Salvo and his best friend Valentino who leave their beloved adopted home town of Palermo to move back home to the their tiny Sicilian village which is crowded with the elderly enjoying an eventless life living off their pensions. Having been unemployed for two years thanks to Italy's awful economy, Salvo comes up with the bright idea of having all of their elderly relatives move in with them so he can use their hefty pensions to support himself and his family. The plan goes well until the elderly begin dying off sending Salvo into a panic and desperately trying to come up with a new plan that will get him some money. His solution is for Valentino to marry the last elderly woman living with them: his Aunt Lucia. Cue the manic hilarity of a small-town as they learn of this scandalous union.

Valentino and Salvo, unemployed in search of fortune and recommendation, leave Palermo for a small country called Monteforte, where Valentino was born and have broke up the woman of his dreams. The situation in Monteforte is not promising: people whispered among square, church, bars and barber. The mature age of the villagers, inspire Salvo to live with the retirement of his mother in law, trying to involve every aunt and uncle that own a pension. Welcomed and forced to a strict diet, which keeps them healthy and alive, the Retired delegate life and the withdrawal of the pension to Salvo and Valentino, who buy the first new car and try to enjoy their life finally. But one after another the old guests die, leaving Salvo and Valentino in complete despair. The two do not give up and they invent new solutions to combat the lack of money. The epilogue is bitter and claims the urgency of a generational change of the ruling classes in Italy.

Valentino and Salvo, unemployed and in search of fortune and recommendation, leave Palermo for Valentino's home town, Monteforte, where they will try to survive the Italian crisis by opening some sort of hospice.
