Synopsis:

I Was Born Travelling is a journey back through Dacia Maraini's past. Her recollections of the past are entwined with the present. An in depth story of her life, enriched by rare footage from the Istituto Luce archive. Her memories come alive through personal photographs taken on the road as well as Maraini's own Super8 films shot almost thirty years ago. A unique emotional journey spanning the different phases of the life of this famous witness of the XX century. From the story of her imprisonment in a concentration camp in Japan, to the legendary journeys around the world with her partner Alberto Moravia, her close friend Pier Paolo Pasolini and Maria Callas, allowing her to witness first hand, some of the most famous events of the XX century, intertwining her life with the lives of some great characters of History.

This film is an intimate diary, narrated through unseen photos and film clips, revisiting her memories of legendary journeys around the world with her partner Alberto Moravia and her close friends Pier Paolo Pasolini and Maria Callas. "During our journeys Alberto used to write articles for magazines, I would jot down notes for my novels and Pier Paolo scouted for movie locations. A journey back through Dacia Maraini's past, as well as a gripping portrait of the XX century shown through the historical events she lived through first hand that would deeply influence her work and artistic path. "I travel a lot so as to surpass the temptation of settling into a routine. Routine shortens the time we have , travel enlarges it.
