Synopsis:
Lauro Venturi comes from a dynasty of Italian art historians. His paternal grandfather, Adolfo, was one of the foremost art historians in Italy, and his father, Lionello, continued the tradition. Lauro in turn managed to make himself a first name in the Art world. He started out working on art books at Albert Skira's publishing house in the 50s and 60s, when the "coffee table book" became hugely popular. In parallel he worked in film, first as an assistant to Mario Soldati and Luciano Emmer, then directing several short and feature length films on various artists, among them "Leonardo da Vinci", with Emmer, "Chagall", and "Bonnard"... He won an Oscar in 1964 for "Chagall". This DVD includes the Oscar-winning "Chagall", "Bonnard", an Italian documentary on famous Art Historian Adolfo Venturi, and an exclusive interview with Lauro Venturi who presents his family story and links to the art, his exile before and during the war, and his life as an Art filmmaker in Europe and the US.

Chagall is a 1963 short documentary film directed by Lauro Venturi. It won an Academy Award at the 36th Academy Awards in 1964 for Documentary Short Subject.
