Synopsis:

La France est un empire / France is an Empire celebrates France's grandeur, her pride in having created a French colonial Empire (between 1814 and 1912) in less than a century. The film also exudes the good conscience with which France engaged in her civilizing mission, showing how colonization brought progress to the natives. In this respect, the film is an anthropological mirror of how France perceived herself on the eve of WW II and to a large extent even today.
