Synopsis:

Tristan und Isolde is an opera, or music drama, in three acts by Richard Wagner to a German libretto by the composer, based largely on the romance by Gottfried von Strassburg. Performance filmed in the Theatre d'Antique d'Orange as part of the Orange Festival on 7 July 1973 (colour). With the New Philharmonia Chorus and the Orchestre National of the ORTF conducted by Karl Bohm. Sung in German, with subtitles in English, French, Italian and German.

Birgit Nilsson and Jon Vickers star in this filmed record of the Theatre Antique d'Orange's acclaimed 1973 production of Wagner's epic tale of doomed love in the Middle Ages. Tristan und Isolde also features the Orchestre National de R.T.F., under the direction of Karl Bohm.
