Synopsis:
A two-volume set of documentaries, re-enacting rural life of the past. In 'Victorian Farm' archaeologists and historians recreate life down on the farm from over 100 years ago. Wearing period clothes and using only the tools available at the time, Ruth Goodman, Peter Ginn and Alex Langlands take a year out of their lives to find out what rural life was really like in the 1880s, as they tend pigs and sheep, cultivate the land, and try to survive without modern-day aids. In the 12-part documentary series 'Tales from the Green Valley', five experts, including archaeologists and historians, face the challenge of running a farm as it would have been run 400 years ago. Working without modern tools and machinery, the team has to turn its expert knowledge into practical results.

Victorian Farm (2009)
In Victorian Farm, a specialist team - Ruth Goodman, Peter Ginn and Alex Langlands - have devoted a year of their lives to re-creating life in a 19th century rural environment. From the warmth of summer to the depths of winter, the clock has been turned back over a hundred years to rediscover this almost forgotten world. From planting and harvesting crops to animal husbandry; from building pigsties to bee-keeping; from tree-felling to driving steam engines and operating period machinery, this hardy group - in their search for the authentic experience - undertook it all, wearing period costumes and using only tools and materials available in1885. In a rural world without flushing toilets, running water, street lights, gas and electricity or motor vehicles, how would the group survive? Discover, as the clock turns back and life as it was lived is revealed on a Victorian Farm.
Tales from the Green Valley (2005)
Travel back through history to a time when King James I ruled the land in this fascinating BBC 2 series... A hidden Welsh border valley provides the ideal setting for a documentative reality-experience as a group of archeology and history experts spend a year immersed in country life as it was 400 years ago, when King James I ruled the land. Each episode will focus on amonth in the life of the farm, following the seasonal tasks that the team endeavour to carry out - from harvesting and building, to the birthing of calves, from salting and smoking meat to sheep shearing and garment making.

Victorian Farm (2009)
Historical documentary series VICTORIAN FARM challenged a group of experts, including a food historian and two archaeologists, to rediscover the skills and tools of the mid-19th century and run a mock-Victorian farm in Shropshire.
Tales from the Green Valley (2005)
Five archaeologists and historians work on a farm for a year on the precept that they run it according to life four hundred years ago when King James I was ruler. There is no electricity, refrigeration, mains water, tractors or chemical pesticides. They have to literally live off the land by growing their own food and making their own clothes, with only four hundred-year-old manuals for point of reference.
