Synopsis:
Scobie Malone (1975)
A bachelor detective becomes involved with baffling crimes, young women and exciting car chases.
The Journalist (1979)
Comedy about a womanizing journalist on a Sydney newspaper who confronts job problems and impotence in the context of Australian media and politics of the 1970's. A somewhat lesser Australian film comparable to the American film Shampoo.
Burke & Wills (1985)
A story based on true events about two explorers on a doomed journey trying to cross Australia on foot in the 19 century.
The Club (1980)
Boardroom and dressing-room intrigues spill on to the field at the Australian Rules football club.

THE CLUB: Outside, the fans are cheering the high marks and the low tackles. Inside, the executives are wheeling and dealing, back slapping and back stabbing. From Bruce Beresford, comes David Williamson's "The Club". When a struggling Aussie rules club buys a talented young football player (John Howard) for a record sum, friction immediately develops between the devoted Coach (Jack Thompson), the insecure Club President (Graham Kennedy), the over-the-hill Captain (Harold Hopkins) and the scheming committee-man (Frank Wilson)...It's tough enough on the football field, but in the boardroom it's a battle ground! Set in the golden era of the VFL, when teams played for the jumper not the money, the blood rule didn't exist and "Up There Cazaly" was considered by footy fans to be the new national anthem, David Williamson's "The Club" takes you behind-the-scenes of the power struggles at an Aussie rules club stuck at the bottom of the ladder.
BURKE AND WILLS: Australia, 1860. Irishman Robert O'Hara Burke (Jack Thompson) is a figure of fiery determination. Romantically linked to opera singer Julia Matthews (Greta Scacchi), he is driven to explore the largely uncharted inland. With the support of several important businessmen and politicians, Burke is appointed by the Royal Society of Victoria to lead an ambitious expedition to cross Australia from Melbourne to the Gulf of Carpentaria. Eager to beat a rival expedition, Burke is joined by British scientist William John Wills (Nigel Havers) and sets off with a party of 19 able men, a supply of specially imported camels and enough equipment to conquer the great continent, a distance of around 3,250 kilometres. But on their return journey south, a twist of fate and poor judgement cause the party to miss crucial rendezvous, threatening their very survival. With tragedy on the horizon and nowhere else to go, Burke and Wills are destined to be remembered as two of the most remarkable men in Australian history. Burke and Wills follows the great explorers' footsteps across the rugged terrain in vivid wide-screen detail.
SCOBIE MALONE: Adapted from John Cleary's series of Aussie detective novels, Scobie Malone (also known as Helga's Web and Murder at the Opera House) is a 70s 'ozploitation' murder mystery with a sexy wink to the crime genre. Sydney homicide detective Sergeant Scobie Malone (Jack Thompson) and Constable Clements (Shane Porteous) investigate the murder of Helga Brand (Judy Morris), a high class prostitute who was also a mistress of the Minister for Culture (James Condon). Digging around for clues Malone discovers Helga's association with some shady characters and her propensity for blackmail - including the minister, his wife Norma (Jacqueline Knott) and crime boss, Mr Sin (Noel Ferrier). As the web of deceit surrounding the murder grows, including certain members of the police force, Malone is tasked with uncovering the true nature of the crime and using his particular expertise to bring the perpetrators to justice. A unique blend of detective story and erotic thriller, mixed with laconic Aussie charm and 1970s sensibilities, Scobie Malone is presented in a brand new widescreen transfer.
THE JOURNALIST: An eye-opening Aussie sex romp from the 70s starring Jack Thompson and Sam Neill, The Journalist is a wildly humorous study of infidelity and the pressures of professional life in the media. Handsome ladies' man Simon Morris (Jack Thompson) is a top reporter and feature writer for a major daily newspaper. Recently separated from his wife, Simon is the sort of bloke who finds it hard to say no, particularly when it comes to his relationship with women. Fiancee Liz Corbett (Elizabeth Alexander) might be madly in love with him, but Simon has other conquests on his mind. When he is saddled with a new job and a pushy new boss Sid Mitchell (Charles 'Bud' Tingwell) Simon's world is not only turned upside down, but his life has literally gone to the dogs. With jealous buddy Rex (Sam Neill) by his side, Simon will need all the help he can get to write himself out of trouble. Directed by Michael Thornhill and featuring a stellar line up of Aussie talent including Slim DeGrey, Frankie J. Holden, Penne Hackforth-Jones and Frank Wilson, The Journalist is a colourful 70s 'sexcapade' in the tradition of Australian classic Alvin Purple.
