Synopsis:
THE WILD FRONTIER focuses on the nineteenth century of America's wilderness that was once roamed by adventurers, hunters, prospectors, outlaws, and tribes of Native Americans holding back the tide of advancing frontier settlement. The unforgiving landscape, the 'Promised Land', offered a variety of temptations for prospective settlers and foreign powers. For some, the new land meant material riches: gold, furs and game. For others, there was freedom. These were the rewards for those willing to brave the harsh climate, forbidding geography, and dangerous isolation of the wilderness.

1. (VOLUME 1) - Lewis & Clark - Saga of the incredible journey of Meriweather Lewis and William Clark to explore the lands of the Louisiana Purchase. On their two-year (1804-1806), 8,000-mile trip, Lewis and Clark drew maps of the wilderness regions; made contact with Indians; studied plant, animal, and mineral life; and charted a route to Oregon later to be claimed by the US.
The Lewis & Clark Expedition - Unearth the story behind the most important voyage of discovery in American history - the journey of Meriwether Lewis and William Clark to chart the vast, unknown West from 1803-1806.
The Long Knives - Discover the story of George Rogers Clark, Revolutionary War general and brother of William Clark of the Lewis & Clark Expedition. Clark launched a series of bold and brilliant strikes against the Redcoats ending in victory in Indiana in 1779.
Surviving The Lewis & Clark Expedition - Roger Daltrey, lead singer of the legendary rock band The Who and avid history buff, braves the mountain wilderness as we recreate the most famous expedition in U.S. history.
Secret Presidential Codes - Investigate the secret presidential codes of Thomas Jefferson and how they may be partially responsible for the death of one of the world's greatest explorers, Meriwether Lewis, of Lewis and Clark fame.
2. (VOLUME 2) - Daniel Boone - Follow the trail of the rugged American pioneer, Daniel Boone, from the Kentucky region, which he explored, to the building of the famed Wilderness Road, and finally on to his scraps with both Indians and the government.
Taming The Wild West: The Legend Of Jedediah Smith - Meet the forgotten legend, Jedediah Smith, who navigated the American West during the decade of the 1820s. This feature-length episode showcases a tale of clashing cultures and dangerous encounters, bear attacks and violent battles with many Indian tribes, and most of all the story of the journey of an unsung American hero.
Trailblazers And Scouts - A fond look back at Kit Carson, Jim Bridger, John Wesley Powell, and the other mountain men, trappers, and pathfinders who blazed the trail westward for starry-eyed pioneers to follow.
3. (VOLUME 3) - The Real Lonesome Dove - The epic adventure of Charles Goodnight and Oliver Loving defines the spirit of the American cowboy and the brutal reality of the West in the wake of the Civil War.
Buffalo Bill - The real-life adventures of William F. Cody, alias Buffalo Bill, whose exploits as a frontiersman were exaggerated and immortalized by writer Ned Buntline in his pulp stories.
John Wesley Powell and The Mighty Colorado - Soldier, professor, explorer, John Wesley Powell, led the first major exploration of the Colorado River in 1869, where he documented rock, plant, and animal species unknown to man, and encountered the gates of hell.
The Road West - The Road West was a dangerous path into the unknown. As pioneers headed toward a new life, they faced unpredictable weather, uneven trails, and sometimes unforgiving Native Americans. In this episode of Wild West Tech, join us to discover the amazing advances made by settlers who used technology to help them on their journey while traveling The Road West.
4. (VOLUME 4) - The Trail of Tears - For thousands of years, the so-called Five Civilized Tribes lived a cultured life in the Southeast US. But in 1829 a greedy Congress started them on a westward march that led to banishment and death.
The Donner Party - From hell and back, witness the saga of what a group of settlers had to endure on the way to the Promised Land.
The Rush for Gold - The real story of how gold made millionaires of a few but spelled disaster for most of the fortune seekers who were lured to the hills.

Discover the history of how Gold Fever really panned out for Americans attempting to make their wildest dreams come true.
