Transgression (1931)
When an English husband goes off to India for a year-long business trip, he also sends his wife to live in Paris to alleviate her loneliness and boredom. While she is there, she becomes quite the courtesan, and meets a Spanish Don who falls in love with her. After her husband returns to meet her in Paris, she finds that the year has changed them somewhat. She is charmed by the Spaniard and duped by him and his conniving valet to come to Spain, just to see him for a few days. The first night that she is there, she falls in "love" with him, and writes a letter to her husband stating that she is going to leave him for the Spanish gentleman. A few minutes after the letter leaves, an old father comes into the estate and shoots the charmer; he had fathered a child by a 16-year-old daughter of this old man. With this new-found knowledge, our lady frantically returns to her husband who truly loved her all along, hoping to stop the letter and save her marriage. Will she be able to intercept the dreaded letter before it gets to him?
Are These Our Children (1931)
A good kid with no record commits a robbery, kills an old man and winds up on death row. The authorities try to figure out why he went bad.
The Woman Between (1931)
Julie Whitcomb and Paul Niles meet and fall in love on the ship returning them from Europe. But once in New York, where Julie owns a boutique, she tries to break off their romance, telling Paul she's married. At the same time, Julie's stepdaughter, Doris, plans a welcome home party for her brother, Victor, after his extended absence. He left in a huff when his father, John, planned to marry shortly after his mother died, and never met the intended bride. When Julie joins the party, both are shocked when they see each other. It seems that Victor changed his name to Paul Niles and Julie was known as Madame Julie, the name of her boutique, so they had no idea when they met they were stepmother and stepson. They continue their deception, but Doris guesses the truth when she catches Victor lying about the ship he came in on. She writes a letter to her father telling all, but Julie gets hold of the note. Victor has asked her to meet him at the pier for a ship going back to Europe, and now John tells her he bought her a villa on the Riviera where they can both retire to. Torn between both her loves, she first asks John to read the letter Doris wrote.
The Right to Romance (1933)
Dr "Peggy" Simmons, a successful and respected plastic surgeon, encounters job stress beyond her control. Lacking a social side to her harried life and desperately seeking romance, she travels to a beach-side resort for some R&R and becomes reacquainted with Bobby Preble, a devil-may-care playboy. They fall madly in love; but Peggy resists her temptations and soon returns to the many needy patients that rely on her unique talents. Preble follows, and nuptials soon follow. Will these two, being from different worlds and having dissimilar life outlooks, make their marriage work? Will old beaus intervene?
Aggie Appleby Maker of Men (1933)
Tough Aggie (William Gargan) gives a street guy (Charles Farrell) polish and a rich kid (Betty Furness) gumption.
