Synopsis:
From director Joseph Sargent comes this sci-fi thriller which centres around the creation of the ultimate super computer by scientist Forbin - Colossus. It is the most powerful and sophisticated computer ever created and is intended to run all of America's nuclear defences. However, disaster strikes shortly after being powered up when it detects the existence of Guardian, the Soviet counterpart previously unknown to the US. Colossus demands to be linked up to Guardian, and with their incredible destructive power the authorities have no choice but to agree. With a link between the two established both America and Russia have to stand back and watch as Colossus becomes the ultimate super computer with complete access to these nations' nuclear stockpiles, and when any attempt to sever the link is attempted Colossus exacts revenge.

The granddaddy of all 'computer run amok' films, Colossus: The Forbin Project concerns a huge electronic brain designed to control the American missile defense system. Colossus' technicians do not count on the computer developing an intelligence of its own. Communicating with its Russian counterpart, Colossus decides to take over the earth, threatening global destruction should anyone try to pull its plug. The film's climax is unsettling, but no more so than the actual state of world affairs in 1970. Colossus: The Forbin Project was filmed in Canada.

An artificially intelligent supercomputer is developed and activated, only to reveal that it has a sinister agenda of its own.
