Synopsis:
Vihtori ja Klaara / Victor and Clara:
Vihtori ja Klaara, apparently the first Finnish film that could be called an 'official' adaptation of the comic strip 'Bringing Up Father', was released on August 20, 1939, and was directed by the highly respected Finnish filmmaker, Teuvo Tulio. Tulio had started his filmmaking career in partnership with Valentin Vaala, and Vihtori ja Klaara was closely based on Vaala's earlier Kun isä tahtoo... Tulio's film also starred Eino Jurkka as Vihtori Vuorenkaiku (Jiggs), with Verna Piponius as Klaara Vuorenkaiku (Maggie), Nora Mäkinen as Vappu (Nora), and Turo Kartto as the shiftless Nisse (Sonny). Although perhaps not one of Tulio's best films, and made on a rather modest budget, Vihtori ja Klaara is nonetheless a very amusing take on McManus's comic creation. The plot, such as it is, revolves around Vihtori's clandestine involvement with an attractive and rather worldly young woman named Ritva, who is planning to marry boxing champion and garage owner Klasu Tullari, son of Vihtori's friend Tomi, and their interactions with daughter Vappu and her fiancé, Peter von Schaslick, a mechanic in Klasu's garage, under the nose of the threatening and suspicious Klaara, with lazy son Nisse acting as a rather sardonic Greek chorus.

Unelma karjamajalla / In the Fields of Dreams:
Int his film Kaarlo Oksanen plays second fiddle as despoiler of the innocent servant girl Sirkka (beauty queen Sirkka Salonen, Miss Europe 1938), the movie's central character. Their meet-cute is appropriately tumultuous. The default Tulio opening montage (sylvan stream, blooming lilies, grazing farm animals, summer!) is subsumed by images of surging waters and the master's onrushing team of horses. The wagon knocks humble Sirkka off her feet, and off the road, scattering the berries she's gathered. Naturally, she will pay for a few moments of love with years of unwarranted suffering: There's a child born out of wedlock. And then the infant is stolen. Malicious neighbors accuse Sirkka of drowning her baby. She's found guilty in court and sent to prison-although, for all that, the movie has an uncharacteristically happy ending.

Sellaisena kuin sinä minut halusit / The Way You Wanted Me:
Filmed immediately after World War II, THE WAY YOU WANTED ME reflects the bleak emotional mood of the country through its heroine Maija who begins the film as an innocent country girl and is then slowly destroyed by the corrupting influences of the city, a popular theme in Tulio's work. Despite the extreme melodramatic flow of the narrative which depicts Maija's degradation in relentless detail, Tulio's approach is deliberately deadpan on an emotional level the drama exists in the powerful imagery, each frame as vivid and expressive as a graphic novel panel.

Laulu tulipunaisesta kukasta / Song of the Bloodred Flower:
Song of the Bloodred Flower is based on a novel by Johannes Linnankoski that has received many film treatments. A likable but difficult drifter moves from place to place, never able to put down roots. While doing so, he becomes involved with a number of women whom he eventually leaves behind. A film that questions the moral contradictions of the Finnish soul, Song of the Bloodred Flower pulls no punches. In questioning the double standard women are held to, the film figuratively renders the plight of modernity, where everyone is adrift in an age without references. Cross Of Life (Rakkauden risti):
The movie is from a novel by Pushkin, the classic Russian writer. Aman is found from the sea. An innocent woman goes with him, but slowly degenerates as a prostitute and a model for an artist...

Levoton veri ( Restless Blood ):
An awarded triangle drama.

Passionate Power (Intohimon vallassa):
This is a new version of the destroyed first film by Teuvo Tulio (Taistelu Heikkilan talosta), based on a novel by Johannes Linnankoski.

The Rapids of Hell (Hornankoski):
There are two boys in the house of Yli-Koskela, Artturi manages room and Aarne spends the unsettled life. When Aarne returns home, he will hit the neighbour of its eye in pleasing Lea which Artturi has wooed as his wife. The brothers' discord increases and suspicious Artturi does not look at Aarne's and Lea's romance pleased. Jealous Artturi starts to drink. In the Tukkilaisseura Aarne gets into a fight with the cards dealer and the man falls in the rapids as a consequence of the quarrel. Artturi sees the making of his brother and which saves the man permission to stay quiet. He tells Lea that Aarne was murdered...

Rikollinen nainen / A Woman of Crime:
Classic triangle melodrama.

Mustasukkaisuus / Jealousy:
Love triangel near roaring rapids. Two sisters fight for the attention of a handsome forester. The older one gets married with him and they get a kid. Accidentaly kid dies in the rapids and a woman blames herself for it. A marraige is shattered, and the fate of a woman is tight to the roaring rapids. Human powered tree transporting through rivers, rapids and sauna romances are past in modern Finland, but they play an important part of this Finnish.

Olet mennyt minun vereeni / You Have Got Me Into My Blood:
A factory girl meets composer Tauno Tarras in a restaurant. She also meet his friend the seacaptain Erkki. Rea and Tauno fall in love but when she tells him she is pregnant he abandons him and gives her an address to an abortionist.

Sensuela:
At the end of WW2 a German pilot Hans crashes in Finland. A Lappland Girl Laila rescues him and they fall in love. They meet again later in Helsinki where Hans works as a photographer. Despite his fathers arguments Laila moves to live with Hans. She starts to act as her nude model, but soon the unfaitful Hans gets rid of her and gets involved with other women. Laila tries to save her face and start a new life but her faith alongside Hans is sealed.
